Max cannot stop MB getting a media pass, that is not the role of the FIA.
Is it not? Who's is it then?

D
Formula One Administration, Ltd (Bernie's former company, now controlled by CVC).

It has been observed that each of the FIA and FOA might on rare occasions act in the other's interests.

John Watson and Charlie Cox are my favourite commentary team, when ben edwards does touring cars it really pi55es me of he so over excitable, so perhaps Cox andd Brundle, if Max doesn't what mb in the paddock perhaps he won't want David Coulthard there either, as if i remember correctly he manages DC?

I miss the passion from F1 commentary more than anything. They might as well be commentating on the G8 Summit for all the enthusiasm they seem to have.
Dear God, don't let James Allen catch you saying that! His cringeworthy, over the top, forced enthusiasm is almost too much to bear as it is...

I agree that James Allen's commentary can sometimes be cringeworthy, but he's done a much better job recently than I think anyone's given him credit for, and the ITV F1 team as a whole is very strong. Brundle is superb, and I'll be sorely disappointed if he's not commentating in 2008.

For all the 'Stop The Cock' folks out there, try muting your television for 10 minutes during an F1 race and record your own race commentary. Then play it back and see how calm, informed and unbiased you sound - it's a lot harder than it seems...

What ever your opinion of his commentary, I think the 'stop the cock' campaign is taking things too far.

It steps over the line from professional criticism, which everyone in the public eye has to take, to personal abuse, which in my opinion is out of order.

That's a fair point.
The thing about Allen that has, I think, driven people up the wall is not that he's made a bunch of mistakes or acted like a fool. That could have happened to any of us.
The aggravating thing has been that he has seemed to take to heart not a word of the numerous criticisms of him. Instead, he has just plowed on in his silly way, as if to say to his critics, "Fcuk you, I'm doing it my way." He's free to have such an attitude but, likewise, viewers are free to resent it and reject him.

ETA: What kind of Englishman names his son "Enzo"? That is indefensible.

The best commentary duo (well, trio actually) is Toby Moody and Julian Ryder with Randy Mamola on Eurosprt for MotoGP...excellent informed opinions from people that you feel actually get to talk to those on the inside, have relationships with those in the know and in the case of Randy, who have been there, seen it and bought the t-shirt (much the same as Martin Brundle of course)...more than that, the other two make no bones that they have no idea what a MotoGP bike must be like to ride, they don't try and bluff it, however, Jules does appear to have a fantastic knowledge of the engineering side, and Toby's enthsiasm isn't forced or nausiating like James Allen.

Bottom line, is that it ISNT dumb-down-telly like ITV churn out.

Of course, I dont want them on F1 at the expense of MotoGP!...that'd just be silly!

The German coverage mentioned on page 1 sounds like the coverage Eurosport used to do for F1, some 10yrs ago?...John Watson and (I think) Ben Edwards (or was it Toby Moody as well?)...lot of build up, coverage of the Fri Qually, etc...better than the BBC were broadcasting IMHO.

On another note...my daughters very much into Roary The Racing Car (!!) at the moment, and the trailor they use for that re-uses the old Fleetwood Mac / BBC F1 theme...fantastic start to a day, gets the hairs on the back o'ya neck...

shout Mr ITV Sir, Bring back the old (proper) theme tune!!...

Maybe we should start a campaign for real theme tunes?....

This years there's been too much on Hamilton in the build up. How much more is there to know about him. Although if you read the motor racing press at all the build is almost always repitition.

Do we if James Allen is really going? Please say it is so, or is just to make us all feel better over christmas only to have our hopes dashed come march.

So is James Allen definitely not part of the team next year?
Oh god don't tell me they've pinched him to present the Footie on the Beeb!

Ben Edwards yes, but not John Watson, I was looking forward to his views when Sky had the coverage, and personally hated him as a commentator, he was too dry, too opinionated, and it was almost as if he was always insinuating he would have done better.

spot on
he was mr " it could have been me" before, and left me very cold indeed.

good driver, no pundit

Can anyone provide a link to confirm whether James Allen has been booted? Or is it just wishful thinking?

I have a horrid feeling it is just wishful thinking on the part of most of the population.

Please please tell me that The Cock is out for 2008?

That would be the best xmas pressy ever.

...and for those who complain about our attack on The Cock - I'm sorry but he's been attacking my sanity ever since the prick walked into the commentary box.
