If you are thinking of using the truck as a race car transporterthen my advice would be don't do it, based on the experience of a close friend. By the time that you have fitted ramps and some sort of roller door on the back, there is very little payload left to carry much more than a car, spare wheels and a toolbox.
Said friend spent the sharp end of £20K building his ideal transporter on a low mileage Eurocargo, then sold it after one season to revert to a trailer.

A cargo will carry 7490kg all up gross. the truck weighs about 3.5 tonnes of that so the payload will be approx 4 tonnes, take off approx 1/2 tonne for a tail lift will mean you need a very heavy car to get up to your available payload capability.Said friend spent the sharp end of £20K building his ideal transporter on a low mileage Eurocargo, then sold it after one season to revert to a trailer.
The reasons to have a truck are:
To eliminate towing a trailer.
To have an extra garage and car storage lock up
To do removals at the weekend
The reasons not to have a truck are:
heavy, and bits to fix em are heavy.
They need tested at wagon mot centres
they are big and look pretty unweildy on the drive
They cannot be uncoupled from a trailer and used as an every day mode of transport
You pays your money and takes your choice.

I want a truck....
but then Im a trucky at heart. Trucks are great fun to drive, I managed to blag my hgv at 19 although only up to drawbars, not artics...
AS I've got an HGV i'd probably go for something a bit bigger than a 7.5 tonner a they tend to be cheaper to buy and insure, due to the licence restrictions.. oh and a bit more room.
7.5 tonner or bigger i reckoned you need at least a 20ft plus box. a tuscan takes up 14 feet which leaves you 6 ft for living and tools...

Well Depends if your doing it on your own,
I plan on using a transit and a Truck. transit for all the tools etc, and the truck for the Car.
as said can use used to keep the car in.
only big down side of a truck is where to keep it.
Truck MOT is not too bad, but a little more expensive.
I have found the truck is easier to drive than a transit with a trailer. both are a bitch to reverse though.
Plus more room in a truck to fit a bed etc. so depends if your going to hotel it or sleep at the circuit.

Having run a trailer for 3 years and a truck for 3 years, the truck wins hands down. I couldn't do the sort of racing I do now with a trailer.Said friend spent the sharp end of £20K building his ideal transporter on a low mileage Eurocargo, then sold it after one season to revert to a trailer.
Its not cheap to run though
For me it holds the following advantages:
Somewhere to sleep at the event.
Can carry everything and spares.
Awning allows a total area to work and live.
Acts as another garage at home.
Can transport everything to Andy APM in one go.
No loading up everything and unloading everything from the trailer/range Rover.
More economical than the Range Rover!!!

I hate Pistonheads now I've got a stupid idea that Mead Crystal needs a 7.5t truck for deliveries.
Oh well should kill a few hours on Autotrader.
If you do get one on the Company, just remember to get an operators Licence... you can come a very expensive cropper if you need one and dont have one..As a chap I know found out after getting stopped by hmrc in a 7.5 tonner he'd hired for the day !!!!Oh well should kill a few hours on Autotrader.

don't forget most truck awnings are big enough to house 2 cars so when it rains you can rent half of it out to the boys that use a trailer
