the 105e anglia rolling at paddock bend is a broadspeed car driven by Anita Taylor.
Strangely enough, footage of that was shown on the BBC4 documentary on Ford at Dagenham the other day. Did that inspire you to post up these great pics? The Anglias bring back memories. Thanks for posting those. I had a 1650cc Cortina GT engined Anglia then and quite honestly I'm surprised that I survived owning it (as well as various Mini Coopers, Imps and Cortinas). It was quite different then as far as having something out of the ordinary and usually meant modifying something yourself as Lotus Cortinas and Escort Mexicos, etc were just too expensive on the sort of wages we earned then. Usually involved lowering and fitting "wide" wheels, 5.5" with crossply tires. Friend had a cortina with a "roll cage" in it, a cardboard tube stuck in the back window........happy days.

Im glad you liked the photo,s timbo, like yourself i had an anglia well quite a few,but one of them was a 1760 pre crossflow built by a company called planet engineering from brightlinsea essex.I used to rally cross it in the 60,s.Most of the young blokes who lived around romford, ilford area had 105E,s a set of 51/2 j,s and lowering blocks on the back, cut the front springs down, classic front struts and bottom arms for lots of negative camber.Back then the A12 along the eastern avenue romford was all roundabouts and we would have races from gallows corner to the mobydick round about, they were great times tha i sadly miss. Now days its all speed camera,s an a 70 mph limit.I think Anglias, together with Minis were the staple diet of saloon racing in the 60s. Whereas the Mini still looks good, the Anglia looks pretty weird, but you could get all the bits for them and they were easy to work on. Yep, lowering blocks at the back and Corsair struts at the front to allow discs (even though the top mounts didn't match). Got through a good few gearboxes and diffs but they were easy to fit and source from the local scrappy.

Did you compete in a lot of Players No 6 Autocosses? I know my late Dad competed in a couple in '66 & '67 but blooming difficult to trace the records of them so would be interested to hear from someone else who competed in them back then.
I only did a few players events, they were in the berkshire wiltshire area,i also did some Reading Post autocross events around 1967/9 in a cooper s.There was always a large entry on the players no6 events and i found it to expensive to compete on a regular basis. boyzee said:

I was there that day and can still remember the commentator saying she 'performed well in an Anglia'. There was also an A30/5 racing. I went with my father. It was a good day. If I remember rightly, at the same meeting a wheel came off an Elite, LOV1 or DAD10, at Clearways. I was so sorry that I couldn't see the driver's expression as he saw it overtaking him.Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
