Ok. Not a race car, but a road car doing practice laps at the Nurburgring for the VLN race. Pretty impressive for a standard road car.

Hi-Def Nordschleife+GP Track lap in an R26.R
Thoroughly enjoyed that one.

IIRC, didn't Dale test motorbikes for "Bike" mag some years ago???

You will have to go a long way to beat that. Maybe onboard footage of Fangio racing at the Nordschliefe in 1957 would do it? scratchchin
Nuvolari 1935 Nurburgring?

I'd love to see footage of that.

To look at him, one would never think that Mike Hailwood was one of the motorcycle racing greats.

It was chillingly simple: last race of the season, and Neil Hodgson could do what he liked. If Chris Walker finished 4th or better he'd be BSB champion after years of finishing second.

The tale unfolds here:

Really?

At least the timing equipment at Jerez could determine who'd won. The stopwatches at Monza took a couple of goes to work out whether Foggy had crossed the line first or not.

So, yes. Really. I think the comparison is a fair one in terms of "close finishes".

Jerez 86 was about hard battling and a great charge by Mansell. The close finish was the icing on the cake.

A shameless cross-pollination from the TV & Films section, but does include colour amateur footage of the 1955 Monaco GP. Wonderful stuff:

Considering Dorna's draconian censorship of anything MotoGP, I found this little gem. Aussie TV of some great motorcycle GP moments from the stroker era cloud9

They are all there: Kocinski / Doohan / MacGee / Rainey / Lawson / Mamola / Gardner / Schwantz, all on GP bikes with a powerband 500rpm wide.

Happy days.

Such an evocative clip, this. Very much "of the period", including Vacarella, Munari, Merzario, Elford and much of it featuring the Alfa 33TT12 (seeing as Ferrari were losing faith with Sportscar racing in 1972)
