I don't remember a car with JW in black on the sidepods with the chrome paint, I just remember the Vodafone ones and the silver and black West cars before these. Weird.
Probably a replacement for West at a non-Tobacco sponsored race.

Small but possibly an interesting point, the noses on each of those cars get higher chronologically, i.e. the /21 has the lowest while after that they start to get higher, see the /24 & /25!

No, Johnnie Walker were side pod sponsorship for the season in 2006, only being dropped for rounds where alcohol sponsorship is illegal (France is one, not sure of the others). Emirates were sponsoring them too, and that is where the chrome/red paintwork started.

As far as I remember, West pulled out in mid 2005, there was trouble after that EU law got passed banning tobacco sponsorship/advertising. Vodafone didn't start sponsoring McLaren until 2007 because their Ferrari contract was exclusive until the end of 2006.

The McLaren air intake does remind me of this

There's a bit going on under there!
An excellent pic. In most of the photos of this area on this and other cars, the shadows obscure the details and relationships.

Cheers.

One big shadow- showing the bottom of the lower wing element joined to the diffuser!
