Anyone getting annoyed with the phrase "Strength in depth"?

Read the press release, you soon will.

Reading the (cough) presspack, some of the cooling has been taken away from the sidepods and is now in the tail fin section. This allowed them to put some of the fuel in the space where the radiators were in the sidepods. They wanted to keep the wheelbase and bodywork dimensions as compact as possible.
I presume they don't have as large cooling requirement now that the KERS is gone too.
I was thinking that too, their sidepods were the same size as everyone else's last year, now they have lost KERS cooling, and the KERS batteries (which were under the fuel tank). That frees up a lot of room around the fuel tank, I guess. I imagine they have put their oil cooler at back of the engine on top of the gearbox like everyone else...
The McLaren batteries were in one of the sidepods. It was Ferrari that had theirs under the fuel tank.

interesting how the fin from the engine cover is fused with the rear wing - splitting the rear wing in 2.

I wonder if thats to stablise air fow over the wing when the back is sliding, or there is a cross wind. Like the multiple vertical fins on a WRC rear wing.
I agree, seems very radical, i just hope they know what there doing. Nice words from Lewis about Jenson.

Nothing to do with the much taller Jenson standing right next to him?hehe

If you want a laugh, see how SniffPetrol on Twitter has been attempting to cover the Tweet wall they've got going on in complete crap!

Nice car actually, the one on the McLaren site looks a lot better than the one on here IMO (better resolution helps).

I said this the other day in the Williams thread but I really like this longer, narrower, more streamlined look that the cars have this week, great stuff. Although I'm not sure about that tail-sail...

Interesting how they presented the co-operation between McL and Mercedes... amazing how quick businesses can change. Merc are simply an engine supplier now, no more.

I wonder if the added fuel capacity is spread low & wide the keep c/g low, so the tank is like an inverted 'T' shape, hence the high intakes.

I've veered off on the McLaren site to the MP4-12C site - pretty slick and impressive

Lets not get carried away guys/gals just by going with the looks. Remember how stunning the 2009 Mclaren and dare i say it, the Gorgeous Ferrari looked at launch. Valencia is when we will see what they can do.

Massively different.

1. They will not want to show all of their trick new bits to the opposition.

2. They have 44 days of development until the first race. Even the stuff they put on the car to do the first set of testing with will probably not make it to Bahrain.

I *personally* thought that the images in this topic make the car look a little odd because of the lower resolution and artifacting, looks a bit more defined in McLaren's photo.
