Targa Tasmania 2010

Targa Tasmania 2010 starts tomorrow. One of the great modern road rallies taking its name from the classic Targa Florio in Sicily. Raced over 1200 miles of closed public roads over the next 6 days.

Last year a Brit (Tony Quinn) won the "Modern Competion" in a Nissan GT-R (R35)

Some very notable people have taken part is this event in the past: Barry Sheene, Jack Brabham, Jochen Mass, Michael Doohan, Murray Walker (!), Peter Brock, Roger Clark, Walter Rohrl, Alister McRae, Stirling Moss. And most recently Eric Bana who is sadly not taking part this year.

And now for the sex on wheel award for the best sound goes to the outright winner of Targa Tas 2010 the Lamborghini Gallardo Super Trofoe Strada on the Paloona Stage. The car is a 2006 model with all the Super Trofoe Strada bits bolted on. They only finished the car a few weeks before the start of the event! Looks a bit mad to drive as well

Dean Evans, former writer at Motor magazine? He won the production showroom class several years before, driving a Mazda MPS (they published a day-by-day report in that magazine).

You should all check out the documentary by Eric Bana "Love the beast" which is about his Ford Falcon he bought as a teenager and still owns today that is prepped for tarmac rally. The film focuses on his entry in to Targa Tasmania.
