Is there any tv coverage of the 2010 race on the www?

PH should get in contact with Mach2Racing about a sponsorship program to get them back over here with Stig or Mark in the RS200 to put up a fight to these big corporate machines!

If they come back, I'll be there crewing for them again (had to miss last year). It was a surreal experience - fantastic event. I'll never forget the bits of that week that I can remember... ;-)

the spectators that are standing on the outside, is that not the same level of stupidity that killed group b. Seems to me with people standing in daft places like that all it would take is a nasty crash and new rules slowing the cars down will be brought in and no chance of 10minutes.

I'm guessing on that loose surface, thier becomes a point at which, no matter how much power you have the car will always be fighting for traction. Making it impossible to improve the time unless something changes to improve grip vastly.
The ever increasing amount of tarmac on the course might do that hehe

The article says Rod Millen but it was Rhys Millen in the Hyundai.

Some good HD footage of one of Zwart's runs (in-car) is available on the Porsche Channel on YouTube.

Edit: Just noticed that this is the same qualifying run link as posted above but from another source.... Would like to see the full 10+ minutes! Perhaps they will put somehting on the Porsche Channel later...

P.S: I read elsewhere that the engine was remapped for high-altitude running and it was using 'rain tyres', presumably homologated tyres for wet circuit use, but other than that, it was standard (ride height must have been raised a bit though!)

My knowledge of rally cars and their setup is slightly limited but the speeds look relatively low (sub 100 mph), and the turns are ferocious.

Would an R500 with a bit of aero make a good pikes peak car?

IMO the low weight and short wheelbase would not help a Caterham on the loose, however people have rallied sevenesques.

One that springs to mind was a Westfield I recall reading about on the Barbados rally:

More like 140mph for the unlimited class on the fastest stretches IIRC.

You really need 4wd to be competitive with that power level, though the 911 that smashed the 2wd record certainly showed how much advantage the rear engine gives in that regard. Knowing how much fun an MX5 is on gravel I can only imagine that a Seven would be absolutely hilarious fun even if it wasn't that competitive.
