To all the Radical supporters just how is a Radical like a road car. Just a tin can with a hole for the driver. The Pagani is based on a real true road car you can own and although beauty is subjective Radical is plug ugly compared to any Zonda.
Well the Radical is road legal and when it set its record was driven from England and back again. The Zonda R and Ferrari 5XX have to be transported.AlexS said:

" On 19 August 2009, Radical Sportscars from Peterborough, England, successfully smashed the Nürburgring Nordschleife Production Car Lap Record by eight seconds, with racing driver and 'Ring expert Michael Vergers at the wheel. The new SR8 LM's time of 6m48s beat a record that has stood since 2005, also set by Radical in a previous-generation SR8. The record attempt was witnessed and confirmed by both the UK's evo and Germany's Sport Auto motoring magazines. To confirm the car's road-legal, production car status, the car was driven from the UK to Germany for the attempt, using the same road-legal Dunlop Direzza tyres for both the journey and the record. I'm going to give this car top marks using by new rating system.
Just to explain, the system consists of two elements. The first element is to rate the car on its looks and attention drawing capabilities. As we all know the type of attention that these kinds of cars draw and the people from whom it is drawn, this symbol will not be a hot chick. Instead it will be an Anorak!
The second rating symbol will represent the cars actual performance (or claimed performance) figures. This will be represented by a set of spunked-in Y-fronts
.
The more spunked y-fronts, the more excitement experienced by the Anorak.
So based on the looks and performance of this Zonda it gets the highest possible score, a benchmark for all other manufacturers to aspire to.
Five out of five Anoraks.
and
Five out of five spunked y-fronts.
I'm sure I'll be getting a PM from the designer to thank me for the publicity and fulsome praise.

Firstly let me say that I think *ALL* these records and cars are fantastic, the world would be a much poorer place if we did not have manufacturers like Pagani and Ferrari and Porsche and Radical putting their money where their mouths are ... big thumbs up from me.Secondly I'm not particularly a fan of the Radical and have no desire to own one whereas I think the Zonda is utterly gorgeous, certainly a car for the fantasy garage that I will never get to own ...
None of these extraordinary and wonderful cars are really road usable compared even to a GT3RS or a Caterham R500.
Having said that, as I understand the situation ...
1. this particular car is not road legal - the Radical was
2. this particular car was not driven to/from the circuit - the Radical was
3. this particular car was not on road legal tyres - the Radical was
4. this particular car is approximately ten times the price of the Radical
5. this particular car is not even available to buy - the Radical is
6. this particular car was 1 second (~0.25%) quicker than the Radical
For these reasons the Radical is the more impressive achievement in my opinion.

top gear had better update their news section on this weeks episode; they only mentioned on sunday about the ferrari setting the new record
well done pagani, although (assuming i had the money!) which would i go for; the 599 or the zonda....
hmmm........
If you could afford one you could probably afford both...well done pagani, although (assuming i had the money!) which would i go for; the 599 or the zonda....

Saying that I'd imagine you could actually take the Zonda home.
"Porsche 962 was never a road car the Dauer is not legally a Porsche. Pagani have made enough of these to satisfy the rules and so are the current leaders of fastest road car round the ring."
Uh - No, I know of at least five 962's made for the road - google it, and I for one would like the le mans history that comes with the 962 opoosed to the zonda.

I think I'm in the "mildly impressed" camp, but also in the "so fking what?" camp. Yeah, it's all very impressive.... but almost completely irrelevant to anything other than making the PR guy's job a bit easier. Well done and all that, but I don't give a st.
yes, more stories about locking wheel nuts and washer fluid reviews please.Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
