Williams Factory Tour 1994
Discussion
This may have been a little earlier - just as Ayrton was joining the team - a late night and I remember driving home in the snow after I took these, so probably at the turn of 93/94 getting ready for a launch (the car in the Rothmans colours somewhere below is actually the previous year's car, but was quickly liveried for PR work. A couple of quick scans -
Firstly, Prost had left his WDC Fezza there on the mezzanine - probably gone somewhere else by the time you were there in 94. In the second pic, you can see a Clio, and a bunch of tubs in various stages of ruin after crash testing.
Then above the white cars, you can see on the mezzanine the 6R4, and the Saudia cars as you rightly mentioned. And of course , the Brands layout Scalextric!!
Security is a whole world different at Grove. I am glad you got to see the museum, it's always interesting to see the cars up close and personal. I was doing a launch at Grove in 1999, and my missus did some reception work for us - journos etc. I took her round the museum, and the first thing she said (having no interest in cars or F1) was a comment on how big they seemed compared to the tele...
It is quite an awe inspiring vision for those of us who love our F1, so I am sure that you were quite gobsmacked as a young lad in there.
I took my somewhat underprivileged nephew to Jordan a few years after that, just passing by Silverstone from his place in Northampton on the way to his nan's on the south coast, so we popped in on the off chance. They looked after him and took him around, and he was even given a disposable Jordan camera to record his little trip.
F1 was so different then.
ETA: Dunno what happened to the second scan, damned scanner decided to scan it landscape, and when I flipped it to portrait, it went a lot smaller - but you get the drift I guess.
