Get well soon kubica. I seriously hope this doesn't affect his career as he certainly had a chance at a world championship in the future.

Gutted for him and F1 in general. I was hoping he'd be in a properly quick car this season and mix it with the front runners, such a shame.

Get well soon Bobby K. Hope he can recover and get back in a car when he's ready.

In the meantime, as much as I don't like the Renault team calling themselves Lotus, a yellow helmet in a black and gold car would be a good look.

Video of the accident damage to the car - the armco appears to have entered from the front.

That's about all they would have though, a good look............

Wouldn't give them much chance of a successful season with only Senna and Petrov in the car.

There's a video of an Italian news report on Youtube. Is shows a fairly substantial hole between the engine bay and cockpit where it is being reported the armco penetrated. Not nice at all.

Fingers crossed for Kubica, he's a really top class driver.

ETA: The video above, at about 21 seconds is what I was referring to.

They can't go with Senna. They need experience in the car trying to develop it, especially with the blown floor! Get Nick Heidfeld in there and you have good knowledge of the Pirelli's too.

Crofty's twitter seems to have the latest:

"Latest on Robert Kubica, multiple fractures to right arm, hand & leg. Having surgery this afternoon. I hope he recovers quickly, top bloke"

ETA: JonNoble has just tweeted that Renault F1 have confirmed the above.

What a bloody waste! I imagine Renault are absolutely *furious*, and it's going to cost them big time. Their season is practically written off from well before the start.

And Bruno? Do me a favour...

That new Renault is going to need a lot of developing to get it right methinks. From what I understand MagnumMans feedback tends to be;
"Its ok, where's me money?" (exit stage left to nearest lap-dancing club.)
"Its st, where's me money?" (exit stage left to nearest lap-dancing club.)

I wouldn't but that's not to say they won't. Anyway all a bit presumative but it sounds like Kubica won't be driving anything for awhile. Let's all hope he gets well soon.

They allow him to do it, so they have to understand the consequences if something like this happens.

Perhaps it's written into his contract, allowing him to rally?

He's uninjured, according to the BBC which quotes the Renault press release.

eta:

A Renault statement read : "Robert Kubica
suffered an accident at high speed this morning
while competing in the Ronde di Andora Rally .
"The driver was airlifted to Pietra Ligure Hospital
where he is currently undergoing medical
checks . His co - driver [Jakub Gerber ] is fine . "

Apparently he got out of the car on his own without serious injury.

That looks like the nastiest sort of accident it's possible to have, had first into a pointy thing.

Quote from a Polish motoring guy I know

"The hand thing was already corrected by the doctors as not taken into consideration as of now. Apparently (according to Jakub Gerber, his co-driver & a friend of mine) Robert suffers from multiple leg injuries and a crushed palm."
