It's not that narrow: a typical Scottish single track road with some excellent sightlines.
The only difference between it and those in the far north west* is the lack of passing places.
See the video I posted on the previous page. The hairpins are just after the cattle grid @9:07.

 * Some are classified A roads! smile
    A836 from Tongue.
    A838 from Laxford Bridge.
    Both ~35 miles

Thank you everyone for your help I really appreciate all of your input. Route now finalised, weather is looking wet, just hope the clouds don't ruin the views! Will post up my trip report and full route on my return.

What's the crack with speed cameras, am I advised to accidentally knock the front number plate on the first tight, low hair pin or am I generally ok this time of year as long as not daft, i.e. stick to 30, 40, trunk roads 60 and show general respect for other road users?

One final thing, looking for somewhere to eat on Day 1 early evening so somewhere close to Skye, staying in Staffin, doubt there is much there so thinking en route, so anywhere 20 miles off the A87?

Speed? Just keep it sensible and you'll be fine. We didn't see anything while we were there, but no fines through the post.

Food? Either the Plockton Inn or the Old School restaurant in Dunvegan are good choices. Depends what you're after, and what route you're taking (hard to tell from your post, but both are within 20 miles of the A87).

You'll probably be driving through Portree on your way to Staffin, there is a selection of places to dine there.
Or Sligachan Hotel is right beside the road a few miles from Portree.
Carbost Inn is about 8 or 9 miles west of Sligachan, they do good food.
Choice of several hotels restaurants in Kyle of Lochalsh and around about. The previously mentioned Plockton Inn is very good, they do great seafood.

Drove from Blairgowrie up Old Military Road today. Oh dear. Oh my good giddy God. Thank you Lord for 996 C4 cars and roads like this. Magical drive which just keeps better the further north you go. After Tomintoul and a frustrating average speed cam'd A9 into Inverness the A835 out west to Ullapool was simply great and the start of the NC500 up north to Inchnadamph more great fun. Oh my tingling whiskers :-)

It's not all fun and games though. I saw this crashed Audi north of the Glen Shee ski area on the OMR:-

That's because you took the wrong route. biggrin

Should have stayed on the A939 after crossing the Spey.

Then take the B roads via Cawdor and Culloden to Inverness.
Joins the A9 2 miles before the Kessock Bridge

I always relate that cottage to the one from the "Tarka the otter" film.

I've spent a not entirely comfortable night on board a yacht in the bay just beneath that cottage - shame if it is likely to be demolished.

Great pic.

It is going to be a sunny weekend coming up in Scotland with snow-crusted mountains (big snow in some parts today). There is a high pressure in charge for the next few days. Could be the best weekend of the year for a hoon.

Not yet. I don't think it's on the net yet. I can ask around before it goes live if you like.

Steve I'd apprecaite that!
We've been looking at plots/house in the Highlands for a while now.
Not found anything that pulls the heart strings yet.
But that location is fantastic!
