This is up for sale, so take your pics now folks, as I'm sure it'll get knocked down for a new build.

(80k if you're interested)
I'd buy that just to look at that view when when I retire. Even if it fell down it would still be worth 80k, right?

Syke is a bit too remote from any major population centre for a rental business to be based there. Added to which is the lack of public transport.
It's a very scenic but infrequent 2hr 40 minute train journey from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh - https://www.scotrail.co.uk/sites/default/files/ass...

AFAIK, the only option that far north is - https://goo.gl/maps/5CC1vbxQYD72
Syke- RD ? .Somewhere near Todday ( or the effects of a few?)

I'll be amazed if that only goes for 80k.

Did a 10 day trip though Scotland not long after buying my Caterham:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPS8OBOm2yk&t=...

Genuinely brilliant place. We headed up to Loch Lomand, up to Inverness (via Cairngorm Mountain), then over to Loch Ness, did a loop around Sky (incredible roads for a small car!), and then ferry back over to Fort William before heading home. Would love to do it again!

Steve I'd apprecaite that!
We've been looking at plots/house in the Highlands for a while now.
Not found anything that pulls the heart strings yet.
But that location is fantastic!
Well it's advertised in an HSBC magazine, but still not on their website... so I'm not sure what is going on. It's not owned by a local, but someone from Edinburgh. I'll keep digging.

Meanwhile... great weather here for the next few days... and empty roads. Took this yesterday on way back from car service:

Pulse it was through Avis Prestige. I Rent quite a lot, usually supercars, the more reputable companies will deliver where you want it, obvoiusly at a cost but nothing like at this price and with £1 per extra mile over 100 miles, so quite restrictive, usually works out a couple of grand minimum. I'm signed up with a lot of companies in Europe and America so wait for the offers.

I was offered the V8 version for the same price, but when adding mileage on it worked out a lot more.

Brilliant write up, thanks for that smile

Was that on an offer then? I just did a quote and it came out as £707 for three days on the F-Type.

maybe if you rent more often you get offered better rates - after all it looks like they create a price each time for each person that comes along, for these type of cars. I tried to sign up to Avis as you've described and christ that website is awful. I already had an online (but not 'preferred' programme) account so had to go through and update it all which was glitchy enough, but then when i clicked the link to sign up for the preferred newsletter not only did it ask me for all my contact details again but it gave a classic 'page not found' when i submitted it. I blame yanks.

Doesn't sound like you ventured north west of Inverness. If so, that's where you should go next time. smile

Pictures from a trip up the old military road;

Cairngorm mountain scenery:

Not so fast over this humpbacked bridge with a corner straight away after it:

Oh boy; pedal to the metal time:

The road into the Lech ski station:

It just goes gloriously on and on:

If you get the chance then just do it.

Also, where's the second-to-last photo from? You've said Lecht, but it looks very much like the start of the road (or rather, the end of the road, almost) to the funicular station, but Google Maps shows what you've said as somewhere else... If it's the funicular station road - fun!

the lecht has no funicular thats the cairngorm ski centre not the lecht and yes the a939 road pst the lecht is very good unless you get behind to many tourist cars who want to stop and admire the scenery. can be very snowy in the winter
