I had a feeling this was the one you were talking about when you said "I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you" in the other thread. I see what you mean, should have kept my mouth shut wink

Be warned though, average speed 20mph on that road. It's TINY.

Where did you get the kit from if you dont mind me asking? Im looking for the same thing and seem to have found it cheapest on Amazon. Whats included in the package though as it seems a little clouded. You find it easy enough to fit to the car?
Sorry, only just read your post smile

I bought the Hero 2 Motorsport kit and the LCD "backpack" from Universal Electronics through ebay, as well as a 32g card, external mic, 3.5mm jack extension lead, skeleton case (so I can plug the mic and charger in while the camera is in use) and an in-car charger through ebay and Amazon.
The Motorsport kit has the camera, waterproof case, suction mount plus various attachments, 4 self adhesive helmet mounts (2 flat, 2 curved), USB charge/download cable, battery and instructions - basically all that you need to get yourself started. I bought the LCD screen so I can use it as a viewfinder and for instant playback and I haven't had time to try the external mic, at speed the camera's own mic mostly picks up wind noise if mounted outside the car. As GC has already said, the camera and suction mount are easy to use and the mount itself feels very secure, though I haven't been brave enough to go past 80 leptons yet hehe Just make sure that you mount it on a clean surface. Battery life is disappointing, LCD screen on or off I'm only getting about an hour tops, pretty sure that the manual says that +2h is to be expected.

GC - loving the R500 vid, not a car for the faint of heart on a road like that but then I'm guessing that you know it well!

You just need a usb lead to charge it, a usb extension lead (1.5m should do it) and one of the below. Worked perfectly on my Highlands trip, GoPro was kept charged up and the only limiting factor was the size of the card.

I have a charger and lead, will get myself a USB extension as well (didn't know they existed getmecoat)

I'll be taking my laptop with me so I can download recordings quite regularly, no need to rely too much on card memory space that way.

Cheers for the reply

Ive ordered pretty much the exact same stuff off of amazon 2 nights ago

Plan is too keep it on charge while filming in the car with the hood down but i want some shots of it sitting inside the front bumper. Bought a external mic and extension lead(3M) to run to the back between the exhausts smile

yes West of Loch a' Chuilinn to the 40 limit at Achnasheen it's probably the fastest two lane blacktop in the entire Highlands. It's hardly surprising the BiB would choose it for enforcement action.

Titanium Storm.

Would have been at the top of the pass at around 11am, and in Applecross itself after that. Stopped for a short break to download that morning's and the previous day's recordings smile

This weekend just gone was my annual pilgrimage to motoring nirvana.

The thought that pops into my head as each new piece of tarmac unfolds, and each new vista reveals itself is - "no, this is the best road I've ever driven"

Had a great trip up through northern england and borders / lowlands too - but the bit of the route on topic for this section of the forum was day 2:

Blairgowrie - Braemar - Grantown - Cawdor - Inverness - Lairg - Tongue - Scourie - Ullapool - Lochcarron - Uig

Missed out Applecross this time, as I had travelled that way each of the last couple of years and didn't want to turn a pleasingly long day into a japanese endurance test.

Key memories of the day:
- early morning light on the hills on your right hand side on the road north from Blairgowire
- discovering a new to me B road between Carrbridge and Ferness (no this is the best road I've ever driven)
- the (generally) outstanding courtesy of other drivers on the single-track roads, allowing you to pass if required
- convoying on the back of a group of bikers for 15-20 miles north of Ullapool
- joy unconfined at finding super unleaded in Broadford
- the ringing in my ears from hours spent in the car with the tacho buried in the happy zone

Suffice to say that the existence of these roads, and this one weekend a year remain probably the single biggest reason why I don't chop in my car for something comfortable, soft and sensible.

Thanks Carter,
So I guess I should stay 1 night halfway up (Maybe Skye, or Hotel Torridon but it may be too far over on the expensive side), 1 night at the top (Durness), then last night halfway down somewhere like Ft Augustus for some nessie spotting I guess smile
The stays will be somewhat at a leisurely pace, the trips between not so much smile
Torridon Hotel is incredible, stayed there about 3 weeks ago. Fantastic property and the 5 course dinner is nothing short of Michelin Star quality.

If price is an issue, but you want the 'fine dining' thing, you can stay in the Inn and book a table in the hotel. Food in the Inn is really good these days. (Not fine dining though!)

Great write-up Flook, and I certainly know what you mean by "no, this is the best road that I've ever driven".

Some photos of my recent trip. Firstly of the Bealach Na Ba and then the Torridon Hotel as it was mentioned earlier (including a picture of the room we had, and of the outstanding Whisky collection in the hotel bar).

Liking the whisky collection. Nothing like good single malt to round off the day.

Didn't know it had been upgraded - it was the B863 when we did it in April. wink

yes Especially with a convoy of 14 cars and a complete absence of any traffic.

Did most of that in reverse returning from Ullapool this year (excluding the northern loop which we had done earlier).

hehe

I think that I even referred to that stretch of road as the A863 in my vids.... Terrific road though, had a VX220 for company for most of the way around as well which made things a little interesting wink

Great photos matt, will post mine up when I can though it may be a good few days or so yet.
