Excellent route. thumbup

A couple of suggestions:

Day 2(a)
Go to the viewpoint here but then return to Kinlochewe and stay on the A832 all the way to Breamore Junction with the A835. To compensate for the extra distance/time end day 2 in Durness instead of Lairg.

Day 3
An alternative to the A9/B9007 from Inverness: B9006 to Culloden Moor & Croy, B9091/B9090 to Cawdor, B9090/B9101 to the junction with the A939.

My advice is as long as you can drive between Invergarry - Kyle (for fuel) - Strathcarron-Applecross- Gareloch -Torridon - Ullapool- Kylesku - Durness- Tongue - Altnaharra your life will be enriched immeasurably and you will spend winter evenings planning your next trip there. My Seven drives the roads itself and I still can't sleep the night before we set off.

Nowhere like it - forget the Evo triangle, the Yorkshire TT , the B660 and all that bks- nothing comes close .

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was in Edinburgh last summer and had a few hours which allowed me to experience the A93.

I dont really want to drive for excessive hours. Would rather enjoy a relaxed route taking in part of what Scotland has to offer and then heading back another time for a longer trip if possible.

I have some family in Scotland and they are always banging about how the roads in England & Wales are nothing compared to what Scotland has to offer!

RedDevil, using my routes above could I trouble you to mark the best view points on the route? I'd like to mark them on my map to make sure we'd don't zoom past!

Coming up from London in a Caterham,
Having owned three Caterhams up here in the NW Highlands, there is one bit of advice I have. If AT ALL possible, come in October or April/May and come when you see some good weather. Don't book months in advance. (If you possibly can - work wise). In those months the B&Bs and hotels always have vacancies, so finding somewhere to sleep won't be a problem (apart from Easter and Whitsun).

In good weather the drive in a Seven is a real blast, the best in the UK, in bad weather it's bloody hard work, and you don't see much. Also, the months mentioned have +/- one tenth of the traffic one would see in July August.

The only place you might ground is if you don't take a wide line round the hairpins up the road to Applecross. (Oh, and if you go on a ferry, speak to the people first, and they will sort some extra boards).

Have fun.

The suggested times are exactly when I intend to go and working for myself means I can always leave at short notice.

yikes

Have you any idea of the scale of the task you're requesting?
I don't mind giving it a go, but I can only begin to scratch the surface.
I'll post them as Google Maps links. Watch this space.

While you're at it just add in the points where you can see an eagle or rainbow- and remember to highlight any places where a sheep is in the road.

But seriously...views in the Highlands sort of come and go according to light and weather. For example you will get amazing views in Strath Dionard (Durness) after heavy rain but the view will be gone in minutes. Of course there are all the cliched pictures which everybody takes (bunch of cars in layby - sea/mountain/ bridge in background)but to get the most from a trip keep eyes open and avoid cliches like the plague. Damn ...

Right time right place and all that. Still takes a bit of skill though.

Another one I've often wondered about
I'll have to give it a try based on you two liking it!
It has weapons grade seafood.

They have lots of renovation going on over the winter.

Think we were the only "commoners" there

HELP ! ! !
Heading up to The Highlands on Saturday. The last time I sampled the delights of Applecross etc was back in 2011.
I took loads of images on the tour, but have no idea where a lot of the images were taken redface
I'd like to revisit some of the roads so could do with your collective help in identifying the locations please .....

1. (Within an hour of Onich)

2. (Within ten minutes of pic 1)

3.

4.

5.

6.(Five minutes up the road from pic 5)

7.

8. (Same location as 7 but different angle)

Many thanks in advance. smile

P.S really rather embarrassed to be posting such pictures in the company of Get Carter's superb creations weeping

Went during bank holiday weekend, an epic 1500 miles journey from London to Durness in 3 days smile

Roads were indeed incredible, many stretches where vision was excellent and you could really put your foot down. Shame it's so far away (the Ring is closer!) and the M6/M1/A1 are so boring. If only the sleeper trains were Eurotunnel style... scratchchin
