The big hill in the background is Ben Nevis, which I'm sure, even on a clear day, isn't visible from Ullapool. wink

It must have some seismic shock to shift Ullapool that far south! eekwink

The pics posted by Blown2CV reveal a very obvious clue. The mountain peak in the background.
It is clearly visible from the A835 as you climb out of Ullapool heading north towards Ledmore Junction.

I think the middle one was taken from the bend in the river by the white cottage on the lower right.

The other two down by the shoreline somewhere near here.

Or maybe further to the left past the end of the road across the golf course.

I'd put SJ's first closer to Caol, than the canal basin at Corpach ,as those houses are part of Caol . Never been down there, but a gent of the same profession as SJ used to have a house on a narrow track over the rail line. I'd suggest close to there, ( and I've never been down that track and can only go from maps, there's no route over the canal ),so I's suggest not far on the Caol ( close to Banavie station ) on the Caol side of the basin.

If you missed the programme about Torrodon & Shieldaig on STV yesterday, you can watch it here (if you have a mind to!) http://player.stv.tv/programmes/on-weirs-way/2014-...

I was supposed to be on the prog but was working in London (so I got away with it!). Lisa O'Brien filled in for me.

I did say 'as close as'. smile The Google car can't get across to the far side of the canal basin at Corpach! You can see Great Glen Way footpath passing in front of the trees. In SJ's pic they end on the left. The open ground beyond them is the Kilmallie Shinty Club Canal Park pitch which stretches down to the clubhouse at the end of Erracht Drive in Caol. Have another look using Google satellite view. I reckon his pic was taken down on the foreshore a couple of hundred metres beyond the pagoda roofed structure next to the path. Quite a trek from Banavie Station.

Would the house on the narrow track over the railway line be here? - http://goo.gl/ewqQRG

It's demanding that I create an account to watch it. Don't see why and I cba. grumpy
I'm sure David Hayman is a decent presenter but here's the great Tom Weir in person.

Exact location NN 098 764. About 30m from the pagoda-like building on the shore side of the canal at Corpach Locks.

Drove down the A82 on 29th December and conditions were great. Roads were quiet and just a little wet. Definitely need good sunglasses for that low winter sun though. (Virtual) prizes for guessing where each pic is (not hard!)

Thought I would just keep this thread going with...

How pretty it is at the moment:

How dodgy the roads are (the grey stuff isn't wet slush, it's solid ice)

...and what all the locals are doing:

Was in Scotland in November as a first-timer, what a fantastic place for driving...looking at pictures online you're already in anticipation of greatness, but IRL it is even better. Mindblowing raw nature with sublime roads in between, it can't get any better as far as I'm concerned.
