I'll count myself lucky if it's not towing something, or a Volvo! I'm hoping early starts to the day can dispatch the traffic for brief periods at least. It may even allow us to catch a sunrise or two (perhaps I'm getting too ambitious). I'm used to considering catching traffic as the ideal time to stop and take some photos!
Any food places (either lunch or dinner) that we should definitely not miss (I mean pub grub, not fine dining!). We're looking at a couple of places that we could actually self-cater in, but we'll see how that goes...

Will do my best not to hold you up!

Interesting just how close that North Coast 500 route is to what we're planning! Hope that doesn't mean it'll suddenly be packed with new like-minded Scotland Now readers (which I now include myself within)

If you're doing the North coast, Dunnet Head is definitely worth a trip on a clear day. Not much to see at JoG but when you leave turn left and go up to Duncansby Head. If you park at the lighthouse and walk South for half a mile or so, the stacks are spectacular.
cheers,

Not exactly highlands, but a work trip to Dundee (normally work in Manchester) brought up the topic of travel methods. I strongly advocated driving and all bar one other guy got the train. He and I went in my Golf R. We did it in 4hr, door to door, and they all did it in 5hr 15m but that's just station to station, so more like 6. Ours worked out cheaper to the company per head, and the other guy was v impressed at how easy it all was, particularly the scots roads. Car wins!
I mentioned earlier in this thread that the Kylesku Hotel was having a refurb and new rooms. Went there yesterday, refub complete - rooms another 6 weeks away. The existing rooms are clean and modern but very small.
Anyway, great food as always, but in a much more modern environment. All artex has gone!

Very nice. I presume the decking ramp sorts out disabled access problems for them? Wasn't the easiest place to get about if you were not great on your feet.
Hopefully I can manage a visit up there sometime this year.
Yep Ramp sorts wheelchair access. I have to say access to the (existing) rooms would be a right faff. New rooms will have had to meet current building regs, so I'm sure will be much better.Hopefully I can manage a visit up there sometime this year.

Steve, looking to cycle the Applecross loop in late May, half term but a weekday, where should we park the car with refreshment before/after without adding loads of miles? Kishorn Seafood Restaurant looks alright, any other suggestion?
There's a new one at Tornapress, RIGHT at the start of the Bealach - opens May 1st - run by good friends of mine. Parking, loo's, food, coffee etc. http://TheBealach.co.ukGetCarter said:
