Skye and Harris trip postponed to later in Summer. I wouldn't say Mrs 2CV kicked off, but she was rather insistent that the 'miniature honeymoon' be somewhere with more guaranteed weather. Accom was proving s bit hard to come by anyway. So... We're off to the Amalfi Coast for 5 days!

Your taste in roads is about as bad as your taste in hotels.
hehe

I was comparing the state of the roads here to a sheep track. EU money has been pouring in here over the past 5 years so we now have some of the best surfaced roads in Europe. You've been on this thread before complaining about the state of the roads up here, but you are obviously not aware of the work that is happening.

Anyway, I have no intention of getting into a row about it. I'll just beg to differ and leave you to have your fun in Norfolk. I like the roads here as they are fast, twisty, hilly and almost completely empty. They suit the sports cars I own. One of the reasons I moved here. (And one of the reasons my new next door neighbour is Gordon Murray - who could afford to live anywhere on the planet but chose here, mainly because of the roads). If you decide not to visit again, he and I can enjoy the roads with one less car on them.

ETA: apologies people, for the name drop… at least I didn't mention the *other* neighbour! wink

The first time I drove to Durness in the early 80s I was rather taken by the fact that the A838 had grass growing up the middle and was no wider than my then Golf GTi . In a Seven I find the Highland roads wonderful- one can go like the proverbial bat out of hell on some roads but others are taken at a very steady pace. I remember driving on the back road by Loch Hope to Altnaharra last spring and even though I rarely got above third it was still worth it - utterly deserted(this on a bank holiday) and the scenery was majestic . Each to their own- if the appeal of a driving holiday is simply the speed worthiness of the road and a five star hotel then avoid the Highlands.

You and Hopedaze should get together. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

He thinks the A535 from Holmes Chapel to Alderley Edge is the "world's best road". laugh

Family have had 6 or 7 Beardies over 30 years or so - lovely dogs - most of ours have been working stock though. I'd have one myself if I didn't work 10 hour days in the city - your neck of the woods is a much better place for them!

Nice pics on your/his site smile

Ha. It's fairly well known I guess - Jamiroquai has a place on the other side of the loch. He comes here as he likes the roads apparently - needs to be put right by Zed 44, obviously wink

Interesting, we were wondering who that the big wooden house with the octagonal bit overlooking the loch, on the south side of the loch.

FWIW I concur with GetCarter, the roads up there are awesome!

Yeah, I can tell by the photos. Lovely straight roads with pregnant spots to pull over for oncoming caravans.

If you head a bit further north and east, you can try the single track mini Stelvio...

Which leads you to this...

The photos and my lack of talent with a camera don't do it justice!

Was up in Harris lat year and stopped more or less in the same spot.
Similar sunny day and the sea looked so inviting in that aquamarine blue you get in a lot of Hebridean beaches I couldn't resist a quick swim. However it was fcensoredg freezing and a couple walking the beach looked at me like I had lost my mind biggrin
This year it's Loch Tummel for a couple of weeks, family and labs. Currently negotiating taking the Lotus as well
Don't know that area of Scotland well, any must do drives nearby?

Dukes Pass and A93 are (relatively) nearby.

Yes, do it! smile

It's quite a challenge with with tricky camber changes on some of the corners.
Lots of trees so it's very different from the open vistas of the Highlands.
Did it last month on the way back from our annual club bash.
