Great pic. What sort of height is that from? Seems a big risk of ending up in Kishorn but is it a case of picking only very calm conditions?
In total the drone was about 3000ft above sea level. It was breezy, but not windy.ETA - it'll fly at 35mph and has GPS lock to where it took off from, so provided the wind isn't greater than that, it'll get home of its own accord. I just press 'return home' and it usually gets to within a foot or so of its take off position. (DJI Phantom 3 pro)

Nice place But it's got the right to advertise itself as the wettest place in the UK.sja brown will advise on maternity things, but in past years births were at Inverness, where the nurses were said to tell a FW child by the web between the feet, but I notice that the ancient Belford is to be replaced.
Bit of a one horse town, where if you need something out of the ordinary, a trip to Inverness is advised. Approx 60miles on a road which in summer is clogged with tourists.
For a family- the High school is ancient, but one place I'd have no qualms about sending my kids to (given a second chance. TV- I don't know if the 20th century freeview has caught up with Lochaber, as last time I visited, reception was divided, and most folks had opted for a satellite dish to get more than four channels.

What's Fort William like as a place to live and work? I may have a possible opportunity up there...
Small town, with all the drawbacks and benefits that brings. I personally wouldn't like to live in FW, but could be tempted to live in the area if the opportunity was suitable.

Wow, literally brings another dimension to your photos! What camera have you attached to it?vrsmxtb said:

I tried the 3DR Solo first with my GoPro 4+ - the vid was great but the stills were poor - and it kept refusing to get a GPS lock. So I swapped it for the DJI Phantom 3 pro - which has it's own camera with a f2.8 20mm lens - much less distortion. The 4k video looks amazing... but creates huge files that won't have anything to do with the internet.coppice said:
FW - location of the worst meal I have ever eaten in my life.
About 20 years ago in Kinlochewe, I ordered baked potato with cheese and vegetables, and when it arrived I got baked potato with cheese and chips. I kid you not. My first meal in the Shieldaig Hotel, the wine choice was red or white! How times have changed. Michelin stars all over the shop these days and the wine list at the Torridon is about 30 pages long.As for Fort William. Best left alone - unless you want climbing gear. Some good shops for that.

Really? Not recommended as a starting point for a Southerner to get acclimatised then?GetCarter said:
Ullapool is nice,
By far the largest population centre in the north west yet still has a small town feel to it. Plenty of places to stay and the ideal location as a base from which to explore what the region has to offer. Also AFAIK it's the only place for miles around where you can get Super unleaded.
