Which road is the Evora being driven on at 11.43 ?
It's in Sutherland, leaving Lochinver driving east. (I'm 99% sure, I do it a lot)BTW... I'm told some of this is on BBC Countryfile tonight.

At 11.43 (11.38-11.49) is the A838 heading towards Tongue, with Ben Loyal in the background.

Thanks for posting. Really enjoyed that. God I miss those roads. In case you missed.
I've been lurking on this thread for a few months now and read all the posts from the beginning
I've looked at all the routes that people were taking plus comments, checked out the North 500 route and http://www.stevecarter.com/bestuk.htm
Now we've finally got our Mustang S550 (ordered last year) I've booked our overnights, based on the route below are there any places we should go or different roads between our overnight stops? Our trip is 8th to 13th May 2016.
Day 1 - Home to Glasgow (7hrs)
Day 2 - Glasgow to Roy Bridge, once we're clear of Glasgow and past Clydebank we'll get onto the A82, A814 to Arochar, A83 to Inverary, A819 to A85, then not sure which is better to do - head west and follow the road to the A832 round the coast, or go east to the A82 and then follow it to Glencoe? - from there up to Fort William and then to Roy Bridge
Day 3 - Roy Bridge to Torridon via Applecross, on the A87 and then following the coast road pretty much to get to the Applecross road and on to Torridon
Day 4 - Torridon to Kylesku following the coast roads as much as possible
Day 5 - Kylesku to Inverness via Durness and Tongue, then at Tongue heading south on the A836 through Bonar Bridge, then onto the B9176 to the A9 and then to Inverness
Day 6 - Inverness to home (8hrs+)
We decided not to go further along the north coast as we went to John O'Groats some years ago.

Looks a decent route, regards Day 2, if you've not driven through Glencoe then I'd suggest that's the way to go. A scenic route from the A85 to the A82 is up through Glen Orchy (B8074). Lovely little road (not fast) that follows the river.I've looked at all the routes that people were taking plus comments, checked out the North 500 route and http://www.stevecarter.com/bestuk.htm

The last time we stayed in Scotland it was in "midge season", no problems until the day we were due to come home, opened the front door ready to get on with the car loading and found a small black cloud between us and the car, it was an exercise in speed to get ourselves, 4 year old son and bags into the car before being too badly bitten.I did see that it was recommended that April/May excluding Easter and Bank Holidays was a good time (and the OH can't wait any longer to drive his new toy!).
Thanks to everyone who has posted here, gave me many hours of reading and much information which has made this so much easier.

One number you don't mention is the A817 (Haul Road) from the A82 to the A814 at Garelochhead - https://goo.gl/maps/ST6TK5ht25yIt cuts out the whole of the boring southern section of the latter through Dumbarton, Cardross, and Helensburgh.
Another option is the prettier and more remote single track road along Glen Douglas - https://goo.gl/maps/Pye26gaayEu
Heading west the on the A85, the route is then via the A828 (not the A832*) which is nowhere near as scenic as the A82 but it may well have less traffic and you are unlikely to be troubled by any potential speed traps (see below).
* That's over 100 miles further north and one of the best roads in the Highlands - https://goo.gl/maps/ZqovHmiMRpN2).

Due to a brain fart when picking the dates, in 2014 our annual club bash coincided with the Easter weekend (mid April). My heart sank as I had visions of the roads being choked with traffic. As it turned out I was worrying over nothing. There was little discernible difference from any other year. Easter Monday is not a Bank Holiday in Scotland and I don't think they make such a big deal of the weekend as the English.Red Devil said:

If you're going that way, be careful at several locations on the A82. The hot spots are Bridge of Orchy and Rannoch Moor/Glencoe Mountain Resort/Kings House Hotel: see - http://www.nscp.co.uk/locations

Blame my recent eye surgery for the road mix up, yes the A828 - we'll be on part of the A832 between Torridon and Kylesku on day 4.
Thanks for the speed camera link, will definitely come in useful
Definitely doing the Scotsburgring, as we'll be right there on our way to Fort William!
We could have gone in April, but there are other commitments so May is the best month to go, and then we'll be taking the Mustang into Europe in June (another trip for me to plan!)
I've booked the various hotels for a trip in June. Following the N500 as much as possible and then down the Old Military Road on the last day.
Any suggestions to make the trip even better would be welcome!
