PetrolPrices.com is useful if you want to know what's available in a specific locality.
Google Maps pinpoints the locations if you're unfamiliar with the area.

Simple enough to type in a location & distance from that place in petrol prices. However, as I'm very familiar with that area, I thought my input might be of use, as I use landmarks, not maps. . The Cleaner station, across the road from BT building /Argos etc used to be a Shell station many many moons ago.

Gleaner are a Shell distributor, at least for their oils and lubricants. I'd suspect the fuel stations will sell Shell fuels, branded as Gleaner.
Lots of the Gleaner branded fuel stations used to carry Shell branding.

Shell got rid of all of its branded outlets in the Highlands nearly a decade ago.Lots of the Gleaner branded fuel stations used to carry Shell branding.
Gleaner acquired most/all of them. It took a while for the process to complete though
The Fort William one had been rebranded by 2009 - https://goo.gl/maps/thoTXRjPvEB2
Whereas the one in Ullapool was still wearing the Shell corporate colours that same year.

The familiar big logo sign had disappeared though.
I don't know of any Gleaner station which stocks 99RON (V-Power Nitro). Their Super Unleaded is 98.
The Shell pull out was a PITA as my car needs the higher octane fuel and I don't get the card points.
Shell has sold many more of its outlets to independents over the last couple of years.
AFAIK the requirement for them to take Shell fuels etc. is time limited.
When that ceases they are free to purchase from any distributor/refinery.
All of which suggests Gleaner are not necessarily selling Shell sourced fuels any more.
Shell oils/lubricants are still to be found on the shelves though.

Without a key I'm unsure what the maroon coloured tags denote.

I think the maroon tags might be Gleaner owned stations, the others would be independent. Shell oils/lubricants are still to be found on the shelves though.

I know a senior staff member so will ask them next time I meet them whose fuels they supply.
As a late 40th pressie/trip my wife and I are doing a couple of days in a Caterham in April. I was lucky enough to win a days hire so we took an extra day plus booked an overnight stay at Kylesku on recommendation of the Caterham owner
Pretty sure we will look at doing the North West Route on this page:
http://www.highlandcaterhamhire.co.uk/routes/
are there any disadvantages to doing it anticlockwise ?
Also appreciate any tips of extra places to branch off to along the route
Can't wait,. the pics on here look stunning - especially yours Mr Carter!

I'd add this. South of Kylesku, where A894 meets A837, turn right to Lochinver, then head south on the B road via Inverkirkaid, then turn left along Loch Lurgainn to rejoin the route at Drumrunie.
My fav road in Scotland (around Inverkirkaid). It aint fast, but blimmin' heck it's pretty.

May be a useful website for people who like to visit unusual stuff while scooching around Scotland. Abandoned Victorian railway tunnels, old factories, WW2 shelters, that kinda thing.

Apologies for going OT. Steve the blog of your self build (or a link to it) appears to have disappeared. Is it still available to view somewhere ?I'd add this. This road was almost a weekend commute for me for many years - sadly don't do it very much nowadays.Lovely late summer evening and very early morning, or in perfect conditions in winter as above.
The Scottish Government came very close to making this all a 40 mph limit a couple of years ago in a quite extraordinary bit of decision making and politicking.
