Cracking early this morning. I love the way the road presents itself in the glen up to Glenshee. Excellent road surface now too.

Also, where's the second-to-last photo from? You've said Lecht, but it looks very much like the start of the road (or rather, the end of the road, almost) to the funicular station, but Google Maps shows what you've said as somewhere else... If it's the funicular station road - fun!
That's at the ski centre I think.

Second last pic is from the car-park here.

It's almost time for my return to the Highlands! biggrin

I'm looking for a tip. It would be nice to spend one evening somewhere with some live music if possible. We're staying near Eilean Donan Castle, so as near to that as possible, but don't mind travelling. We're likely to be shattered on the Saturday, so ideally anything Sunday-Friday (heading back on the Saturday, as well).

The Glenelg Inn quite often have music. I'd check first. (Bit of a hairy drive back in the dark if it's bad weather!).

Depending how close to the castle your staying.
The Clachan in dornie, Right opposite Eilean donan. 1 min walk tops.
Food and live music. Seasonal so check first. Think it opens for easter.

And GC is right about Glenelg Inn, Its a good old drive in the dark!! eek

Heading to Skye this Saturday then Harris from Tuesday.

Got the usual suspects lined up- Fairy Pools, Storr, Quiraing, Luskentyre, Golden Road, Callanish Stones etc.

What other site or piece of tarmac on the islands would it be too rude to miss? I'm staying close to Staffin on Skye and close to Tarbert on Harris.

Do most places on Harris allow for card payment? Anything else I should know before I get there?

Calling Steve Carter...

Also, I'm assuming getting a Boxster on and off a ferry shouldn't be too much hassle? It's not that low.

On Skye, the drive to Elgol in the south is lovely - eventually taking you to the other side of the Cuillins (boat trips available from Elgol).

On Harris, many miss the drive to the beach right at the end of the B887. So that's on NW Harris, not S (Though you're right to take in Luskentyre).

Most take cards, and there's a cashpoint in Tarbert. WiFi is a distant dream outside Tarbert!

Boxter will be fine on the ferry, but if it looks problematic (the angle changes with the tide), just speak to the bloke and he'll either put you on first or last with planks of wood to change A.O.A.

Have fun.

Here's that beach on N. Harris (I can't guarantee she'll be there mind wink

After breakfast 14 days from now I'll be setting off, together with some mates, from Dumbarton to Uig. woohoo

Thanks for that.

Weather's looking a bit iffy at the minute, certainly windy.

Some March 2017 NC500 trip photos for western part; Tongue - Applecross. The weather was a constantly changing mix of sunshine, snow showers, cloud and rain. Overall the driving along the mostly deserted roads and the scenery were both simply outstanding.

1. Bealach na Bà

2. Sea stacks on coast between Durness and Tongue

3. East side of Loch Eriboll

4. Somewhere between Tongue and Durness

5. Coastal bay near Durness

6. Looking inland between Durness and Tongue

7. Heading north towards Durness area

8. Skye Cuillin mountains seen from road north of Applecross.

9. Near Kylesku bridge.

10. Heading south down east side of Loch Eriboll.

Enough I think. One thing; there were a troop of RVs at a Durness campsite. This was March. There are quite a lot of single track roads so I would think the NC500 in the holiday times like Easter and in the summer could be a traffic-ridden pain.

Well, tomorrow is the day for me. Setting off around 3am, to miss the traffic... Time will tell if that'll be a bit tiring or not!

It's raining all week, so we're off to a good start.

Neither of those locations are between Tongue and Durness.
Both are ~16 miles further south.
1 mile apart on the B801 between Rhiconich and Kinlochbervie.
