Leave the A93 and take the B950/A924 via Pitlochry. The A9 is d/c south of there and feeds directly onto the M90 at the Broxden Junction roundabout.
Less than 50% of the A9 is dual carriageway between Pitlochry and Perth, and it's normally a slow section of road at most times due to volume of traffic.Even at below the NSL the A9 will be quicker than the A93 which won't be exactly traffic-free!

But as Blairgowrie can be very slow getting through it at times it could be as quick heading to Pitlochry, and it's a great wee bit of road.
That's why I suggested it. JM said:
But a stop of at Scoune Palace could be added as it is passed in the road into Perth.
But an alternative to miss the east side of Perth and avoid single carriageway A9 would be after Blairgowrie take the unclassified road to the right after the Beach Hedge, just at the Bridge over the River Isla and head for Stanley on the B9099, and then onto the dual carriageway A9.
I did think of that but preferred my suggested route. But an alternative to miss the east side of Perth and avoid single carriageway A9 would be after Blairgowrie take the unclassified road to the right after the Beach Hedge, just at the Bridge over the River Isla and head for Stanley on the B9099, and then onto the dual carriageway A9.
Hi all
Just come back from scotland, a route which was veerrryy good for twisties in the BMW was the route from Girvan to Newton Stewart (and then heading north towards New Galloway)
There wasnt a single car on my side, needless to say my tyres were pretty warm by the end (what was left of them)

Apologies, hadn't seen that photo on page 60. How close do you live to that spot GetCarter? Or is it on your daily work route?
I work from home. I live further down the coast road opposite Shieldaig (see below), but I drive the 'Scotsburgring' about once a week, sometimes in a fast car early in the morning, when I have it all to myself, sometimes in a dogmobile (you saw some nice dog walking beachs on that road!)Edited by samuri on Wednesday 27th August 17:55
This will give you an idea of where I live... me' house, in the foreground:
ETA, and yes I was up and working at 03:40 on a Sunday morning. Best time to get stuff done. Nobody rings me.

Got back yesterday from a week staying in Alness, the third time I've made the trip via car than 'plane. No Lotus as the other half would rather stick pins in her eyes than be passenger for a 1200 mile round trip however the 350z does OK
Took this at Struie Hill looking over the Dornoch Firth (mobile pic), no time to get much other driving in like other times but I did have a shortish blast around the B9176/A836/A9 loop which stretched the Zed's legs quite nicely, even if the A9 was just a means to an end.

I leave on Saturday for Glenelg for a week, usually go up near Gairloch/Kinlochewe so not as high up this year, but this is our first trip with our son (14 months) so actually glad not to be going as far!
Will be taking the diesel Focus for practical reasons (Economy, Pregnant wife, child and dog!!) so not so much fun as usual, but still looking forward to it
