Rutland is a pretty good playground, but away from the common b660, try these:
B672 caldicott to a47
A6003 caldicott to upping ham (plan to use at a quiet time thought)
B6047 from A6 to Melton mowbry above A47 is really good.
Down in Exmoor and Devon you should try:
B3227 from Taunton to Brampton and the up to south malton (old A361) then on to G Torrington as already posted. But carry on to holsworthy, it stays good.
A3027 from the coast to hatherliegh is smooth fast and epic
B3190 from Hampton over the moor to the A39 is a challenge.
B3224 and B3223 east to west over the Exmoor is a blinder
Plenty there, happy driving

I'm lost in that case. I mostly just remember some nice twisty sections, several of which were reduced to a 40 limit with speed cameras on. Meanies.
It was probably the route from Banbury (M40 junction) or Brackley (A43) to Stowe. It's mainly a 50 limit, and a single camera at Farthinghoe. Yesterday I did the B4560 to LLangynidr which was a short, but fun piece of road. I believe it is used by Chris Harris, Autocar and other car publications.

I also did the B4246 which again was short and sweet. And on my way there I did the Chepstow to Usk road for the first time in the light, which was brilliant till I caught a dawdler!

TBH, i much prefer this to the much vaunted A4069 and, unlike Mr Harris, think it suits the MX5 perfectly
Btw, did you do any video footage?
Not a recent find - been using it for 25 years.

Excuse the rattle, the camera mount is work in progress!
Not strictly new, but I spent a lot of time in rural Essex over the weekend and still very impressed by the B1051. It's just wide enough to be driven enthusiastically without being too reckless and traffic is very light by the standards of the South East.
My favourite section is the southern end between Stansted and Thaxsted, but the latter section (past Thaxsted) is good too, as is the B1053 that it joins onto.
Okay, the views aren't as special, but in terms of actually being able to make progress without too much slow traffic or too many draconian speed limits the North Essex countryside is hugely underrated.

Not by those who know it. A couple of longer runs.B1057 Haverhill -> Finchingfield -> Great Dunmow.
B1053 Saffron Walden -> Finchingfield -> Braintree.
Link the two arms of the X at the top (B1054) and bottom (B1256) and it makes a nice circuit
First time I've driven this, and it was jaw dropping!

That's only half of it. At the other end of that valley is Hardknott.
The western descent to Eskdale is even steeper with some savage hairpins bends
Serious pant wetting moments when it's icy.

Nicely done, Ally
did one about two years ago but YT didn't like my choice of music, sadly
I dare not use music on my videos as I wrongly have 2 strikes against my account for "copywrite infringments" and dont want to lose it.did one about two years ago but YT didn't like my choice of music, sadly
This is the route I did last week

We used these among others (Hardknott/Wrynose/Honister etc)on road rallies ...at night....as fast as you can..timed to the second...absolutely briliant...but driving in the daylight made for some OMG thoughts at the speeds we had been doing earlier.Wrynose Pass - Lake District by PGDesigns.co.uk, on Flickr

Drove on the 4560 recently after seeing your post, was a brilliant road up until it narrows up more than ideal before reaching Llangyndir so so might double back at the last hairpin and turn off to crickhowell heading north next time though. Much appreciated for your post!I also did the B4246 which again was short and sweet. Also drove on the B4521 to Abergavenny as entering the Wales and at the end of the day left by the B4235 usk to chepstow, both roads were excellent as well I thought.

I've not come across that one before, but driven quite a few of the roads around Lincolnshire. The fenland road layout works quite well - some nice tight bends, where you can lean on the car quite hard without doing silly speeds and then some longish straights where you can get past people doing a more leisurely pace.
i ride this regular in the better weather on a bike, used to be 600 and was great fun!!! very fast and open, have just upgraded to a fireblade so hoping it will still be fun Gassing Station | Roads | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
