As per the title, what's the best road you've discovered in, say, the last few months?
For me I think it's the B660 between Kimbolton and Glatton. I know Evo is always harping on about it, but it wasn't until I ended up staying nearby that I had an excuse to try it out.
By any standards it's a pretty good road. There's a nice mix of corners from fast sweepers to 90-degree zigzags and some reasonable straights where you can get past dawdlers. But the best bit is the fact it's lightly trafficked and well-sighted, so you can tackle it with more commitment than would be wise on a lot of B-roads.
The B645 that leads you there from the A1 is also pretty good and you can turn the whole thing into a detour of about 25 miles if you're heading north on the motorway...

Road off the a614, going to eckington near bilsthorpe. Hoonage central, easy to feel challanged while doing well under the speed limit.

+1 on the B660. Cracking little bit of road, however the ultimate bit of road for me has to go to the Dalveen pass in Dumfries and Galloway. Many hours spent caning an old Jetta up and down there

I've been around a few places recently including the Lakes and while I thought Hardknott Pass was a fantastic experience I didn't think it was a great road to drive. I much preferred the Kirkstone Pass going from south to north, I managed to hit it on a sunny day and with very few other cars around and it was an absolute blast.
Nearer to home I went up the B1257 from Helmsley to Great Broughton in the Yorkshire moors and again had an absolute brilliant run.
Edit: Also forgot to mention the Whinlatter pass was great fun, it didn't have the spectacular views of other passes in the Lakes but again the road was empty and it was wide enough (for the most part) for you not to care what was coming round the corner in the opposite direction.

Ok, so I didn't find it lately. I didn't "find" it at all. One of my fellow HPC members introduced me to it. Nirvana!  Bardney to Baumber, Lincolnshire. The fenland road layout works quite well - some nice tight bends, where you can lean on the car quite hard without doing silly speeds and then some longish straights where you can get past people doing a more leisurely pace.

My sister lives 5 miles north of Caistor. I use that route plus the B1178/B1202/B1190 from/to RAF Waddington. Cuts out all the faff of getting through Lincoln and mixing it past Scampton with all the artics heading up the A15 to the Humber Bridge.

I'll make no apologies for tabling the best road I've found lately being a motorway.
I had a mid-tender meeting last Friday in Grimsby, and travelling from Telford the trip looked long-ish but easy. So: A5, M6 Toll, back on A5 near Tamworth, M42, A42, M1. So far, so disappoint.
Then, I leave the M1 and join the M18 which then becomes the M180. Not since discovering the M74 and M55 many years ago have I used quieter M-Ways with such long straights. As most of the M-Ways I use are more often than not absolutely heaving, the M18 and M180 were a stress-free joy. Compare and contrast with the M6 South this afternoon. A site visit from Wolves to Aston, which normally takes half an hour to get to, took nearly 2 due to an accident and subsequent total borkage of the M6.

Stumbled across a great road & then route not long ago while driving to a job. All my years of living in Sheffield & Id never been along the first road (Mortimer off the A57) before which has now become a personal fave. Mortimer Road off the A57, Follow all the way to A616, then left onto A616 & follow until you get to the top of the hills & you'll come across a sign to turn right for Shepley (onto Wood Royd Hill Lane), follow this road round until you get to A635, from here turn off onto the A629 down to the roundabout. From there ive not found a good route back yet. Just been using the A61. But im sure one of you guys will know a better way back. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&am...Ive also found if you detour between C&D at Wall Nook Lane, you get some good roads up to Shepley & get onto the A629 from there. Definitely would recommend this route. Had an absolute blast in my Type R when I did it. Was in the work van the first time which obviously wasnt as much fun. This isnt a route for low cars though! Mines slightly lowered & was ok, but if youve got it slammed at all, stay away. You'll definitely bottom out in a few places if you dont drive it with care.
