Hi all. As the title says I fancy a day trip to France however I can only get away for one day and I would like some suggestions on where to go. I am thinking about heading south and exploring the coast. I have heard that Boulogne is nice.

Now for my main question about breaking down. I do not have breakdown cover however should something happen what will I need to do and what organisation do I contact? My car is reliable but its always best to know just in case s**t hits the fan.

Have a look on eurotunnel website. They sell the AA breakdown for about £20 for a single trip.
I'd use France as a gateway to Belgium or holland. Brugge is nice. I'm sure a few other people will add places to go.

Travel the d940 to framezelle, I've driven this road loads of times, don't forget whichever way you go from Calais you'll need to cough for a toll eventually , except towards Belgium. Don't forget also no radar detectors allowed and take yellow vests for all on board.

Caen is nice, lots of small towns to explore, there was this stunning place an hour south of le man's on a river within what appeared to be a bastille, stunning place and great steak restaurant.

Go and explore!

Tickets all booked for the 15th biggrin and I have to say I am looking forward to driving down the D940 to Boulogne. It looks like a nice stretch of road with some good views. So my plan to date is to have a spot of lunch in Boulogne and then maybe drive further down the coast. I will defo update this thread with pictures when I come back and will probably do a little write. I am still as interested as ever in suggestions and recommendations on places to see and go so keep em coming guys.

Hi. Looks like you had a great trip. Le touquet has now been added to my route and the coast road D940 is the one I will take biggrin I did think about Belgium but unlike you I only have a day and their is a lot of places I would like to see in Belgium so I am saving it for another time. What is St Omer like?

Carry on down the motorway to Rouen, I was there yesterday buying a couple of plant pots. It was just a flying visit but I'll defiantly be going back for a bit of an explore. How you getting over, what's your time of leaving uk, if it's p&o and you don't get the ferry that you booked then they charge you extra, quoted me an extra £90 to stay over for another two hours, er no.
Bloody half term thieves. Strongly worded bloody email coming there way.
Enjoy the miserable wkers that are the face of Britain when you go to come back to the uk. I fking hate the rude uk border farce..

lol Yeah I guess they can be like that but I have never had a problem with them. What is good to see Rounen? The ferry I am taking leaves at 8 in the morning and I catch the one at 10 in the evening back to the UK. I bought the travel insurance that covers me if I would miss one.

Hi. Do you know the speed cameras are along the D940? Do the police set up speed checks on this road?

Bit late to the party, but...

I'm not aware of any cameras or speedtraps on the 940 between Calais and Wimereax, could be wrong though. I have seen a few police cars around, but just seem to be Monsieur Plod going about his daily duties.
If you are down that way try stopping in Montreuil Sur Ner, about 9km iland from Le Touquet. Nice old walled town, square with lots of cafe's and restaurants.
