Just scheming my September road trip and the preferred destination is Verona. Best way looks to be Reims, Belfort, make my way across Switzerland via interesting routes and then drop in to Italy somewhere around Lake Como. Before researching in detail has anyone got a starter framework or top line thoughts on a route?

can't help much, as i only stick to the main routes in the wagon. but when it suits us we cut through switzerland, and i would go via reims. even on the main routes i get to see some cracking scenery.
verona will be nice to finish at, and not too far from some great places to visit wink

Yeah, getting down to Switzerland is fairly straight forward- where would you normally cross over? I'm considering Mulhouse as well.

Ours is all pre planned dependant on gig, and crossing at night.
But from Belfort, Mulhouse/Saint Louis is looking your favorite i'd guess.

whats the plan from there?
Lucerne, Bellinzona, Lugano, and out of Switzerland into Italy at Chiasso/Como?

Not sure, I want to get some hiking in so now thinking a week in the Verdon gorge and then head east into Italy. From verona head back via Switzerland, mulhouse, reims etc. Tempted to veer off into Austria as not been since I was on the road back in the early nineties- would be good to see the nice parts. Time as always is the limiting factor.
