Help/advice in planning a route to S.W. Italy please!

I'm driving down to Sorrento this time next week. I've driven on the continent and in America many times and I drive for a living so I've no problems with long distances or driving on the 'wrong' side of the road! However, that's always been in a hire car and as Italy appears to be the most expensive country in the whole wide world to hire a car, I decided I'll be driving down!

I'm planning to leave Liverpool on Saturday 26 July, late afternoon.

I'm booked into my hotel in Sorrento Tuesday 29 July and check out Monday 4 August.

I need to be back in Liverpool no later than Friday 8 August.

Can anyone help me with an interesting route, places to stop and see there and back etc?

I'm happy to cover a lot of ground in a day! I did 1,251miles one tiring day last summer!!

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thank you

That's rather a lot of driving! Where are you planning your first stop?

The best roads are going to be as you cross the Alps, and for that, others are far better qualified to advise you than me. However I'm interested to see what gets suggested, for future trips.
