From where in south London? Is afternoon/evening alternative times, or will you be travelling during the commuting peak period?

Ah, not what I was expecting when you said south London. Orpington is my home turf. smile

Unless you're in a rush, try this.

A224/M25/A21 exit towards Sevenoaks.
Turn right in Bessels Green (Bessels Green Road)
Join B2042 to Ide Hill & Four Elms
B2027 to Edenbridge
B2026/B2028 via Lingfield to Turners Hill
B2110/B2114 to M23 services at Pease Pottage.
Then A264/A24/A272/A3

A journey of two halves. The first part (to Pease Pottage) is all on fun B roads.
A264/A24/A3 all fast D/Cs. The A272 is either great or a PITA depending on traffic.
