Hi,

I'll be starting a new job in Bury in September and I'd love to hear how long I can expect it to take me. I'll be going from Ainley Top to Bury.

Thanks

Very much depends what time you will be travelling at. My other half works in Oldham but it only takes her 40mins from North Leeds because she travels before rush hour both early morning and afternoon.

If you wait till rush hour then you are in the lap of the gods - there are accidents almost daily causing some kind of delay, although often on the Ainley Top to Bradford stretch which wouldn't affect you.

I'll be leaving Ainley Top at about 7. I can't leave any earlier as I'll be dropping my other half off at work and it doesn't open until 7. As for my return time again that'll depend on what time rush hour starts and ends. I'll probably leave school at about 6.

Leaving that early you'll have not much trouble. Simister island at junction 18 tends to build at around 7.30-7.45, so you will probably just miss this. Even if you're caught up in traffic, this will add no more than 5-10 mins onto the journey as all the traffic queues from the M60 at its merge with the M62 west side (junc 12 off the top of my head), this is the traffic which backs up the M60, onto the M62 east side. As you're leaving at Junc 18, the run from Birch services will be easy.

Where in Bury will you be going to? As traffic in the town centre can be hideous at times, especially up the A58 to the town centre.

The return trip will see a little traffic in the town centre, but not as much as the morning. There may be trouble at simister island, but no more than 5 mins. The M62 east from Junc 18 tends to run a little slow to Milnrow, 60mph in lane 3, but no traffic jams.

Oh course, this is my observations pre- managed motorway introduction. There is now an unenforced 50 limit while they prep the roadworks, so i'm unsure if anything has changed.

Thanks for all your help and advice. Hopefully I'll miss most of the problems.
