On my trip to the alps last week I was looking forward to the San Bernardino Pass as I had wanted to drive it for years. But the weather wasn't too great for me either and was similar on Splugen Pass

Even better the still longer way round via Castellane.
Take the D952 along le Verdon and then the left fork here.
Follow the signs for Gorges du Verdon Rive Gauche.
Turn right here (much shorter via Trigance then Comps).
