Best Route from Aosta to Beaune
Discussion
Can anyone suggest the best route from Aosta to Beaune? It is the penultimate leg of our Euro Trip for September this year. Don't know whether to go via the Great St Bernard Pass/Martigny/Montreux/Lausanne or the Petit St Bernard Pass/Albertville/Annecy. I've sorted all the other routes:-
Calais - Bad Neuenahr (for 6 hours of Nurburgring)
Nurburgring - Freinsheim
Freinsheim - Mulhouse - Flims
Flims - San Bernadino Pass - Orta San Guilo
Orta San Guilo - Bergamo (from where we will get the train to Monza for the GP)
Bergamo - Aosta
Aosta - Beaune
Beaune - Calais
Any suggestions?
Thank you

I would take the Petit St Bernard Pass/Albertville/Annecy then keeping to the west side of Lake Geneva, go through the Parc Jura Vaudois. Use pegman on Googlemaps to design your preferred route northwards (D roads only). Then head west towards Beaune.
If you haven't decided on your route from Beaune, why not look at the D roads through the Parc du Morvan to Avallon. From there pick up the D944 which is a wonderful, smooth, fast flowing road that winds its way through the undulating Burgundy countryside towards Troyes.
Hopefully you'll be able to dine out on some great memories of fantastic places and roads.

I'm not familiar with the Montreux/Lausanne bit but I know the Great St Bernard Pass/Martigny and the Petit St Bernard Pass/Albertville/Annecy sections. Both are good but I preferred the Petit to the Grand St Bernard. In fact, after getting to the bottom of the Petit we turned round and went back up again for another go!
When in September are you going? We were there a few years ago in the middle of the month and the very tops of the passes had received their first snowfall the night before we arrived. You've never seen a long line of TVRs going so slowly!
