Okay stop right there smile I don't use J7 often but when I do I'm certainly known to use L2 of the eastbound joining slip just as it was originally intended. As you know the slip is quite steeply inclined and its nice to have an overtaking lane because other traffic will often ascend very slowly. I will mourn its passing.

Seriously though the accident stats can only speak for themselves and it's good to know people out there are looking to make logical improvements to improve traffic flow and safety. It's a job I'd find interesting myself.

Are you responsible for the recent A5 improvements on the East/SE edge of Shrewsbury? I regularly go B4380 - A5 - A49 and back, and that traffic flow is much improved now.
Not directly, but I've had dealings with it. The roundabout improvements at Preston Boats and Emstrey are Pinch Point Schemes which were quite involved, they seem to be a success though which is good.

My job now is to tie them all together by resurfacing the stretches of the A5 between them: Preston to Emstrey to Bayston Hill (Dobbies) to Montford Bridge (B4380) etc.

I'm also redoing Dobbies Roundabout, getting rid of the horrid High Friction Surface and properly lining it all.

Lots of work going on, to say the least. smile

smithyithy,

Can you turn the traffic light controlled junctions on the 449 between M54 j2 and the A5 at Gailey in to roundabouts? I understand reducing the speed limit to 60 through there - I've had to anchor up from 70 to 0 when the traffic lights change on many occasions.

Also, at the eastern A5/A49 junction in Shrewsbury those new lights on the roundabout should be part time signals. I do that roundabout on a regular basis and I don't see the need for traffic light controls on it most of the time - perhaps at rush hour and on bank holiday weekends at most.
