3 of us are taking our 7's to the IOM late June for our annual driving hol. We were there a few years ago. Apart from the TT course does anyone know other roads that would be good for a blast on? Has anyone any other bright ideas (apart from drinking!) to keep us occupied? Thanks

Me and the missus went a couple of months ago for a wedding. Some lovely scenery and great driving roads but we had a Micra hire car!

Funny place though, all the pubs were dead on Friday night as seemingly everyone only goes out on Saturday night.

If you stay in Douglas parking is a bit of a faff, it's free along the front but you need a disc to put in your window. There's plenty of space in the evening but you can't get parked after about 9 in the mornings. There are a few car parks though.

We stayed at The Claremont in Douglas, I'd recommend it!

A36 Round Table Road from Port Erin heading north. All Manx roads will test your suspension.

Much as I enjoyed the TT route (a mate is a big fan who goes every year, he has a bit of a thing about not going the wrong way, if you want to go a mile back down the road you do a lap instead. I thought it was a bit strange to begin with but it's a bloody brilliant idea), there's a lot of roads in the middle that are used on the Manx rally that I found more fun.

The mountain road from Ramsey to Douglas is one of the best, if not the best driving road in the world. And I've driven some roads!
Apart from there being no speed limits, the road is a race track to think of a better description.
I have been more than 20 times and know the Island well. You should respect the speed limits in towns and villages though and don't upset the locals.
Some of the roads can be very uneven, and then some which have recently resurfaced are amazing.
The road up to the old mine is now fantastic, the road from Castletown heading up the centre of the Island is good and again unlimited.
The road from Douglas to Foxdale is also good if you don't get stuck behind traffic, there are few overtaking opportunities.
The mountain road takes some learning, there are deceptive corners so take it easy to begin with.
The best time is either 5.30am or 7.30pm onwards, less traffic.

Yep. Don't disrespect the limits.

This guy got banned becuase he didn't brake early enough (passed the 40 lollipop at 100) @ 7:09 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2Opf6U1JOs
A ban in the IOM applies in the UK under the mutual recognition of driving disqualifications rule.

Message me dates, details and the types of things you're interested in and I'll put together some routes for you. Depending on when you're here I may also be able to come out with you - try my hand at tour guiding!

I'm fairly new to 7 ownership but I'm born and raised here, had a greatly mis-spent youth 'learning' every inch of available tarmac (plus some that wasn't available), and I compete in local nav rallies at the moment so I have a fair idea where the best bits are. There's a fairly big group of 7's over at the moment, enjoying the one-way no speed limit system on the mountain road for TT. A bit of local knowledge goes a long way I think when it comes to knowing where is safe to play and where's not. There are some cracking roads elsewhere off the main TT circuit. These also tend to be a lot more sparsely populated (the TT circuit is commuter routes all the way).

Hope I can help you have a good trip! Look forward to seeing you.

Same applies to anyone else thinking of coming over for a drive ;-)
