I will leave at 6am. The aim is to get into Monaco for around mid day. Would this be a recommended route taking into account I would like to drive down Route Napoleon too.....

You're only on the N85 for a short distance. Stay on it past Castellane, all the way to Grasse.

Leave a bit earlier or arrive a bit later - get Brunch in Castallane.

TBH it is a lovely part of the world. If you avoid the autoroutes than you won't find a bad route.

I had planned to take the RN all the way this year.
Didn't check the Tour De France schedule and we were driving it the day before they were arriving.
I lasted about 2 hours, all that time longingly staring at the Peage that was running alongside about 100m distant.
Eventually I gave up, hopped onto the Peage and had a blast down to Monaco.
Left at about 9am, which is probably the worst time to leave knowing my luck but we got to Monaco around 3ish I guess.
