I'm in the initial stages of organising a holiday in the US next September (my 65th and the wifes 60th). Planning to take in an NFL game and a race - either NASCAR or Indicar if possible. Going for 3 weeks flying midweek so get 3 weekends.

Idea is fly to Seattle and have 4 ot 5 days to take in some scenery - we would prefer to B&B in oldish houses - before flying to Washington / New York then Boston (again 3 to 4 days in each) and then fly home.

Looking of some decent suggestions for roads / places to eat / stay around both Washington State and New England

Sounds like a great holiday. I would thoroughly recommend a trip through Mount St Helens National Park in Washington State and a visit to Vancouver over the border in British Columbia, Canada. From here, you could take a trip over to Vancouver Island or make your way Eastwards to the Canadian Rockies via the Okanagan Valley up to Jasper. From there travel down via the Columbia Icefields to Banff and Lake Louise. You'll see some of the most stunning scenery ever and with a bit of luck some wildlife. You could then fly over to Boston from Calgary.

We visited Boston and the surrounding area a couple of years ago - you'll need about 3/4 days to do Boston justice. We then travelled south stopping off in Plymouth and on to Falmouth and Cape Cod, taking a boat trip over to Martha's Vineyard. Further North we visited Salem for the Witch trials experience (a bit tacky really) and stayed in the pretty coastal town of Rockport before returning to Boston for our flight home. We stayed in quite a few B&B places in Massachusetts and they were all lovely.

I imagine that you're flying across the middle part of the States or are you driving across? You'll need more than three weeks to do all of the above but they're just suggestions for you. I absolutely love Western Canada and can't recommend it enough. Enjoy!
