Don't tell anybody but what a sublime drive this is. Drove it yesterday in Caterham , hardly saw a car, smooth, twisty and fast . On one of the rare occasions when I encountered human life - it is very quiet - I was given a round of applause by a bunch of teenage girls as I accelerated ..err....briskly out of their village .

Used to do this now and again with S2000 club colleagues several years back.

Great fun when it was quiet.

Moorland road from Newcastleton to Langholm quite enjoyable too.

SSSSHHHHHH!
Please don't tell anyone about the great roads round here, they are nice and quiet and we'd like to keep them that way.

Yes, stop talking about it! A delightful route. Anyone else find Newcastleton odd? We stopped there and the place......Banjos pick-up trucks sprang to mind.

The butcher's shop is very popular with it's 'special' pies. Reminds me of Royston Vasey (the place , not the man)

Yes Royston Vaisey. Exactly! Nice looking little place but when I went into a shop I felt very uncomfortable.

On one S2000 meet/hoon c 10 years ago we went looking for somewhere for a quick bite to eat in Newcastleton, and followed a sign to a cafe off the main street, as a plate of egg and chips etc sounded just the job.

We parked up and went to the door of what purported to be the cafe and were directed into what can only really be described as someone's front room. The décor was Coronation Street 1970's style.

From memory the egg and chips was perfectly fine, but a little unnerving to be sitting eating it at someone's dining table as the (presumably) owners sat on a couch several yards away in front of the fire reading and chatting.

Another time, when leaving Newcastleton on the wee road over the hill to Langholm we came around a corner to find half the town camped up beside and across the road involved in some kind of mass participation country sporting pursuit that did not seem to involve Range Rovers and tweed. We didn't hang around long enough to clarify if it was ferreting or a pagan ritual.

So is it just 28 miles of roads like this?

Rumbled ...Yes it is - sadly. I'd stay away if I were you. It's not even as good as NW Scotland and we all know how awful that is.
