Fastest route London to Liverpool?

Leaving for Liverpool tomorrow morning. Whats the fastest route (least roadworks, cameras, and plod).

Should I do M40 and M6? Or M1 and M6?

I would do M40 and M6 and use M6 toll road

I don't know what time of day that you are leaving or what part of London that you are travelling to, but I used to go from North Liverpool to Central South West London regularly.

The route that I used to take was:-

M57, M62, M6, M5, M42, M40, M25, M4.

As soon as I left the M6 then the journey became a lot more pleasant and the traffic more free flowing and I could travel at a decent speed.

If I went on the M6/M1 then I found myself getting more stressed due to the number of idiots hogging the middle lane and progress was slow and painful.
