Hello Roads forum.

I have a new car to run in, and most of tomorrow (bar a lunch appointment in Bristol) to spend driving it.

So I am seeking route/road suggestions for Woking to Bristol (by midday) and then back to Woking by 5pm-ish. No motorways as far as possible. I'd like to find some enjoyable sections along the way whilst avoiding rush hour traffic.

Google suggests the following options:

I guess I could use one on the way there, and another on the way back.

What will I enjoy the most?

All thoughts, comments etc welcomed. TIA.

The A36 is the main route between Southampton and Bath/Bristol. It will be a PITA if you get stuck in a camel train behind a HGV between Heytesbury and Limpley Stoke. The A4 between Corston and Bristol can be a drag as well.

Consider these

 * You'll be on a decent road much sooner after leaving Woking.
** This avoids Newbury and the A339: another road where you don't want to be stuck behind a HGV.

On the first route, don't forget the Shrewton to Heytesbury alternative. The stretch across Salisbury Plain is straight and open, about the one place I know where most people go as fast as they can. I know it picks up the A36 at Warminster, however its not that bad.
