Almost becoming a weekly occurrence between Chester and Runcorn - this time a lorry and a car had a coming-together, closing two lanes. I think I need to move.

It's because of all the improvements they're doing at the Runcorn bridge.

It improves the risk of crashing.

Seen that happen before now. The standard of driving is terrible - the amount of lane-hogging and tailgating that goes on is ridiculous. No wonder there's almost a crash a day. They should fine people who cause crashes by driving into the back of the car in front - maybe then they'd leave more space and pay more attention to what they're doing.

after we cleared the accident yesterday there was a VW Polo with a lady driver who just sat for 15 miles on the middle lane
We just sat back in inside line to watch how long it took her to move over, it was only when somebody nearly side swiped her after coming up from lane one over to lane three to pass her and then straight back over to lane one she eventually moved over.

I know they are stopping people on the M62 for middle lane hogging but not sure if they are doing it on the M56

Rarely see the BiB on the M56, at least not in marked cars. I'd be quite happy if they put average speed cameras up on that stretch - I'd prefer to be moving at 50 than the stop-start-crash behaviour you get at the moment.

You'll never guess what's happened - another crash. This time it's a car on it's roof behind the crash barrier on hard shoulder.

Be grateful OP, in the NW you have sh*t-loads of motorways for f*ck-all people!

I live in Berkshire where we have sh*t-loads of people and f*ck-all motorways (about 2 AFAIK!) But we don't seem to close them by crashing quite as often!

And before everyone gets on my case I came home from Runcorn last night on the M56, M6, M42, M5, M40 and M4.

You don't know how lucky you are!!!!

ASC = lane hogging / tail-gaiting / blind-spot hovering and a proven increase in the risk of an accident (according to TFL research conducted through road-works). Much higher stress driving than free-flow. Even 70mph creates more of this particularly with scam enforcement (present confused state of SMART M-way with no limit displayed). You can see it happen on German Autobahns very dramatically when entering 120 kph zones set by the local green nutters.

You obviously haven't been on that section of the M56 eastbound after 4pm - most of the time you're lucky to get to 70, more often than not it's 30-40 on a good day, and there are no viable alternative routes.

You don't know how lucky you are! Try the M25 between the M4 and M23 between 8 & 9am or 4 & 6pm - you'll only get above 20 mph at those times in school holidays!

This is the real kicker when there is an accident - just nowhere to go without going significantly south.

I jumped on the M56 to get back up after a blat around Wales this afternoon. What a disaster! M53 junction traffic caused a complete halt which seems to be a regular occurrence. 2 breakdowns and a minor rear end accident all being attended by various flashy light vehicles = rubber necking tossers causing massive tailbacks for no reason.

So infuriating

That will be the M6 thread you need then.
