Just wondering if anyone knows of a good way between London and Manchester that involves some good roads?

Travelling up for work next week and although I'll have a car full of work equipment I would be keen to try it on some good roads.

Any recommendations?

How long can you (or do you want to) take?

I've got all day Tuesday to drive up and need to be at the Radisson Hotel for 6PM.

So not a vast amount of time, then, unless you're planning on a very early start.

I think I'd be tempted to head up the M1, then head across the Peak District towards southern Manc.

It's a 4 hour drive from my house to Manchester the normal way. I planned to leave at 11 and hopefully take a smaller detour off the main motorway routes to get some good roads in whilst still being 'on the way'.

I might see what happens if I set the Sat nav to avoid motorways.

Not a bad shout but just pick the right route through the Peak District, it'll be a bit st if you get stuck behind a wagon and a lot of the NSL roads have been reduced to 40/50 mph. Stop in Matlock for fish and chips!

So you're planning to spend just an extra three hours en-route? That's really not going to give you many choices.

A few quid down the petrol station for a road atlas. Remember them...?

Sorry, but this is why I'm asking - If I need more time then tell me. I've never been past Birmingham so not sure whats out there!

I do remember them, but unfortunately I was't old enough to read them.
