Greetings fellow PH'ers,

I'll be going from Manchester to Bristol for a mate's wedding and have 2 days to spend going through Wales with one overnight stay close to Aberystwyth.

Day 1 (THU) will start at 7.30am at Manchester Airport flying in from the continent and grabbing a rental car and would end around 7 or 8ish pm at Aberystwyth.

Day 2 (FRI) would lead me from my overnight stay down to Bristol where I would need to be sometime in the evening.

Day 3 is then the wedding and Day 4 gives me some time to go down towards Devon and Cornwall where I haven't been for almost 20yrs, so will be great to see that place again.

Any suggestions which roads I should go explore in 1 day Northern and 1 day Southern Wales, Northern meaning here any place above the red line in the map below:

Many thanks in advance,

Trefy5

Very loosely - - head for Bala after Chester then on to Dolgellau - Corris - Machynlleth - Aber.

Aber to Devil's Bridge (Pontarfynach) - Cwm Ystwyth - Elan Valley (check out dams if you wish) - Rhayader - Newbridge on Wye (Right) - Beulah - (left) Garth - (right) over the Epynt - Upper Chapel - Lower Chapel -Brecon - Abergavenny - Raglan - Usk - Chepstow - Bristol

Lots of other places to go via, esp in North Wales but that's a notion or two to be going with smile

B4391 South of Bala and the section north to Ffestiniog.

I'd hit Brecon town to Merthyr to Hirwaun to Treorchy to Bridgend and M4 to Bristol.

There's a great mountain road near Treorchy, roads a bit rough but Evo have been known to test around there. Mind the cattle grids and sheep.

Use the bit below.

Followed by the A470. Much more fun than the direct route via the A494.

As an alternative to the B4519/B4520 via Upper Chapel try this - https://goo.gl/maps/dWBNrVud9tC2
The military road from Tirabad to LLywel is one of the finest bit of tarmac in the whole of Wales.

Thanks for the feedback so far beer

I will go through the above one of the next evenings and come up with a route I will post here. Given I have pretty much 12 hrs to get from Manchester to Aber for my first overnight stay I don't mind taking as many diversions from the straight route as possible to see as much as I can.

Same applies for the second day where I have the full day to get from Aber to Bristol where I need to be at the wedding at noon on day 3.

Rental car's a 1 series BMW btw. Nothing fancy but looking at the prices for rental cars that are non FIestaFocusCorsaAstra brought me to the verge of my first stroke laugh

Maybe a Focus would even be a better drive but couldn't book that one for certain and don't want to risk ending up in an Astra or even worse a Citroen C4 or sth like that whistle

Surprised you even managed to get a BMW. With a mug looking face like yours.
