Cannes to Chamonix
Discussion
Hi all
We are setting off for a mini euro trip,
Most of our route is sorted but cant decide on the route for possibly the longest day driving.
As title says, Cannes to Chamonix. Originally it was going to go N85 (route napoleon) but there are so many options to cut across. I know none of the roads will be particularly quick ones. I'd imagine they are all pretty good, but are there any hidden gems i should consider?
I plotted this one
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Gassin,+France/G...
but not sure if this will be a mistake, as it is more direct (as in how the bird flies) and shaves 60km off the journey but i dont want it to add on another hour to an already long day...?

Thought that I would mention this loop in case you are in the area for a while and might be of interest. The rout is detailed within the article.

I only did half of the loop as I was travelling from Lake Geneva into Italy, but remember that the St Bernard Pass was epic.

I did this in a day a few years ago, I havn`t had a more intense day of driving and doubt I ever will
St Tropez to Nice (you`ll have a head start there)
Nice to the Col De Bonnette, then over Vars to Briancon and over Galibier, turn right at the end for Modane and over Iseran, drop down to Bourg St Maurice (Seez) and turn right over the Petite St Bernard, turn left at the bottom and through the tunnel to Geneva and flew home to London (but you will stop at Chamonix)
You could cut out Galibier by doing Briancon to the Frejus tunnel and driving down the Maurienne valley or by not turning right over Galibier and heading for Grenoble, at Grenoble you could head for Albertville then Megeve and follow signs for Chamonix
