F Type for 5 days - where to go?
Discussion
Have some unexpected leave and snagged a F Type S coupe from Avis for 5 days, starting from London. Any ideas for a road trip, leaving Monday and returning Friday night? I was thinking Wales but not sure what there is to do there other than the evo triangle and nearby roads, which doesn't seem like enough for 5 days.

If you want to make the most of the unlimited miles - Scotland is the answer!
For less driving maybe a loop up through Wales, across the Peak District/North York Moors and back to London?
I did think about Scotland but the drive up there seemed a bit boring. It seems about the same length as Sydney to Melbourne and just as monotonous (happy to be corrected!). For less driving maybe a loop up through Wales, across the Peak District/North York Moors and back to London?
Yep loop through Wales then Peak District/Yorkshire sounds like it might be a go. Do you think one night in south Wales, then Peak District, then Yorkshire makes sense?

What kind of driving do you enjoy? How many miles a day, bearing in mind you're doing five days?
Mix of sweeping bends GT style and more technical tight twisties would be my favourite - I went to Austria to do the Grossglockner in August which was absolutely fantastic That said, I don't want to drive all day - having scenery where I can stop and go for a walk would be great.

BUTTERTUBS you won't regret, tie it up whitby for the best fish and chis in the world!
Had a look and seems these are both in Yorkshire...ish (apologies, no idea re UK geography). Vaguely remember Buttertubs from an old TG episode? Whitby I only know of from Dracula, looks like it might be a good overnight stop!kini mini said:

Wales isn't as good as Scotland, but you're right, the drive up is boring.

Nope. Clarkson's Car Years - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarkson's_Car_YearsEpisode 5 The New Romantics. From 16:18 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qxvQjGV2-s
Personally I wouldn't choose Wales. Nothing wrong with it per se but with 5 days available I would want to combine it with somewhere else.
The issue with that is having to waste time on boring motorways to reach those other areas.
The best bits of Scotland are too far away. Starting from London you really need another 2 days (to get to and from a realistic starting place) to do it justice.
My choice of areas to go would be
North York Moors - https://goo.gl/maps/8iinSEKVEK12
Yourkshire Dales - https://goo.gl/maps/vFRe1YixR6K2 (Buttertubs is aka Cliffe Gate Road between Hardraw and Thwaite)
North Pennines - https://goo.gl/maps/oSVyMCgPna62
Borders - https://goo.gl/maps/LwR3wywbtmp
The advantage is that they can all be linked seamlessly together with no big gaps in between.
This has the added bonus that the boundaries between the 'areas' are fluid.
Overnight halt locations can therefore be picked to fit the time avaialable to you.
Personally, I would make Whitby my first overnight stop and go this way - https://goo.gl/maps/PKrhJed27gH2
My sister lives in North Lincolnshire. The route north of Peterborough is much more fun than the A1/A1M/M180.
I always used to go that way, but became disenchanted with High Dyke (B6403) due to increasing numbers of the 45mph everywhere brigade creating camel trains.
Despite, or perhaps because of, being dead straight for much of it's length it can be a tricky road for overtakes. The undulating terrian doesn't help either.
Nor am I a fan of the A1 from the end of the A1(M) to Colsterworth: a two lane d/c littered with plenty of elephant racing LGVs.
