Thanks, any particular roads I should look at in those areas?
The road from Ingleton to Hawes, via Ribblehead viaduct, (Settle & Carlisle line), then from Hawes turn left over to Thwaite via the Buttertubs pass, then up to the Tan Hill via Keld.

Wonderful.
Agreed with that! Had it all to myself in my Golf Gti last year and it was bloody brilliant!

Sorry, I should have said - unlimited miles, but can't take it out of the UK without incurring very hefty extra charges.
Out of interest how much were the charges for going outside the UK?

Cheers!

I agree - smashing bit of road, weather might let you down at this time of year though.

Just a quick note to say thanks to all (Red Devil in particular) for the help with routes - had a fantastic time despite the heavy rain and snow showers last week and managed to cover about 1100 miles. I ended up with a brand new F Type S (the AWD model for some reason?!) with all the options and it was great fun and frankly brilliant value rental.

I would particularly recommend the Dales route - absolutely brilliant.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but it was in the neighbourhood of a 30% premium and required express written consent in advance. At that price level and taking into account the transit time to leave the UK, it didn't seem worth it to me versus say flying somewhere and renting a LHD vehicle.

Was this a special offer of some other kind of perk?

Cheers for info - glad you had fun in the F-type!

It was an offer which happily coincided with my time off - but I'd been watching the website for a while. Worth having a play around with dates, they seem to operate a pretty aggressive demand based pricing scheme so you can get a good deal if the timing works out (I'd missed a few before this one, including a deal on the F Type R!).

I did think about Scotland but the drive up there seemed a bit boring. It seems about the same length as Sydney to Melbourne and just as monotonous (happy to be corrected!).

Yep loop through Wales then Peak District/Yorkshire sounds like it might be a go. Do you think one night in south Wales, then Peak District, then Yorkshire makes sense?
Just to say I have sometimes found the M6 through the lake district quite enjoyable, IF, IF, you get the timing right. nice, free flowing, decent views, and at the top of the M6 / M74 you are into Glasgow for the start of many good roads.

If you get the timing wrong, you will tear you hair out.

If you feel you might not have enough for 5 days, and to add a little bit of a change, would you be able to take it to Northern Ireland? You could get the ferry from Stranraer after enjoying the highlands and tour NI for a couple of days?
