Calais to Sancerre - please recommend me a good route!

Hi there,

I'm planning a long weekend in Sancerre next month and would really appreciate any recommendations for routes. I was thinking of stopping for a night somewhere in the Champagne region on the way down so if anyone has any pointers there that would also be great!

I have tried googling it but all the suggestions are in southern France.
