There must be something we're not being told about the background story here.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/01/01/labour...

To summarise, road access to Forge Mews, Bassaleg, Newport was by a bridge over the Ebbw River. Two years ago bridge closed due to damage. Since then access has only been by foot, even emergency services said to be unable to access, e even in case of fire.

2027 is target for a solution.

Appreciate it's an expense for 19 residences at a time when there is no money, yet the dual carriageway A467 runs down past the other side of the houses.

Indeed street view suggests that some sort of vehicular access could be provided, either at the end by the pedestrian bridge over the A467,

or that something has already been provided at the other end of the property row.

There's got to be more to the story, avoiding the usual Welsh Labour Council tripe, I mean trope.

I'm not buying into the story.

Fire brigade would kick up a fuss.

Or maybe it's to keep the sheep at bay

Stick a gate in off the main road? No idea if there's a verge or whatever and I'm sure it would need 50 people to do a study, an analysis and loads more 'what ifs' so that there is no actual progress.

StreetView and the overhead view suggests one of the parking bays and the fence at the closed end of the cul-de-sac has been opened up for access onto the A467.

It's n infrastructure project, and in local government There's no funding or planning mechanisms for emergency bridges to be built. And WG have not stepped in to escalate. So it follows the process, which is monitor repair and then find funding to build a new one.

There's emergency access off the dual carriageway.

That's the same image that was posted in the OP. It's as stated, are there some complicating factors not being reported?Maybe that entrance is across private property and some agreement has not been possible to be reached. Why can access to rear gardens from the dc not be arranged, create a lay by and dropped kerbs.

It's accepted that a repair involving several million pounds is not organised overnight, but this does seem to smack of an example of the glacial pace that infrastructure works seem to take these days. Nothing gets fixed in any timely fashion it seems. Yes, spending money on this is an opportunity cost elsewhere, yet there are millions, probably billions in truth being splashed left, right and centre.
