Warm hello to all pistonheads!
I'm planning to do road trip North Wales especially Evo triangle in couple days. Can you recommend the place to eat in this area please?
Thank you
My usual breakfast stops when out for a drive. I'm planning to do road trip North Wales especially Evo triangle in couple days. Can you recommend the place to eat in this area please?
Thank you
Llyn Brenig on the East leg of the EVO
Riverside Chocolate House,
National White Water Centre,
Pont Yr Afon Gam on the fantastic B4391 (Opens at 10:00, March to October only)
Moel Siabod cafe (gets busy past 8am)
Conway Falls (gets busy past 8am)
Be careful if you go on the EVO, from safety point of view and not getting points point of view!

That's our usual breakfast stop, gets my vote!It is good but it does get busy in that region. Not great for driving.
Caffi Gwynant is nice but a bit out the way for the EVO; however, has better roads on the way over to it.
I was there last year during the middle of the week. I took a couple of days off and drove from London and stayed a few nights. 60mph is enough on those roads anyway, but from what I remember visibility is very good on the straight stretches, so are these road users speeding around corners and been stopped by police as it's too late to slow down by the time they've been clocked, or they must be well hidden to catch them speeding? I have to admit I wouldn't fancy visiting at the weekend.
Here's a route I've put together, all of which I've done before but I'd still welcome any feedback:

Random question but I'm also interested to know if anyone has visited the public toilets in Pentrefoelas - are they satisfactory or worth avoiding? We're a mixed group of 10-15 people and last time out there weren't enough loo stops, especially for the ladies, so I'd like to address that.
Thanks

Good route
With reference to the loos at Pentrefoelas, they're fine. Nothing special, not particularly clean, not particularly dirty.
Not sure about the cleanliness of ladies loos, nor their capacity.
I'd just be grateful there are loos in the middle of nowhere (and a good tea-room /coffee shop at the same location)

If you're going at this time of year, or on bank holiday weekends expect lots of traffic with limited overtaking on the A-roads of Snowdonia. The A470 in particular is the main artery from north to south - while it has some amazing stretches it's rarely empty enough to enjoy. Same goes for the roads around Snowdon and Llanberis - loads of tourists year round. You will enjoy the section from Machynlleth to Llanidoes. The north and the Brecons tend to get all of the attention, but Mid-Wales has much to offer as well and as yet is not blighted to the same extent by caravans or 40 limits.
Rather than heading west from Llanidoes on the A44 to the coast, carry on a little further south to Rhayader and take the road via Devils' Bridge through the Elan Valley. It's a single track but amazing fun and incredible views. The A4120 from Devil's Bridge to Aberystwyth is not too shabby either.

The A470 is simply a link road, and the loop around Snowdon is for the superb scenery and views on offer. If it's poor conditions/visibility we'll just cut straight from Pen y Pass to Beddgelert.
As for the A44 west from Llanidloes, again, it's a link to the aprés-driving fun in Aber. Day 2 takes in the excellent Elan Valley etc.

If you've any more tips for Mid-Wales I'm all ears. I drove from the Brecons to the North to visit EVO and a few other roads last year and I'm hoping to head back September/October.
Thanks.
I'll post my Day 2 route in the next few days, keep an eye out there might be something in there of use.Thanks.

Lots of police vehicles circulating the route today
Unsurprising. But quite frankly anyone hellbent on having a high speed hoon around North/Central Wales on a BH weekend deserves to feel the long arm of the BiB. On a fine day such as today the roads will be busy with numerous tourists, add in the hordes of wannabe Valentino Rossis all out to prove their skill, and there'll be rich pickings for the BIB (in between cleaning up the inevitable aftermath of those who've mistaken ambition for ability...)

There are PLENTY of back roads round there to explore that have no cameras
It has actually made the area less busy (I wonder if the local traders have considered that )
THe EVO triangle area is the same, if not more so, there are great roads not far from the triangle

Then they'll end going elsewhere messing the quiet roads for others. I must be there at the wrong times; in spite of using the bottom (A5) part of the triangle many times, and the rest of it a few times in the last couple of years, I have never seen anyone driving like a nutter on it.
It's the cretins posting on YouTube, giving an exaggerated impression of their numbers, which are the problem.
Plenty of nutters on the M4 though!
