How far along the A543 is gravel?
I'm staying in Taporley for a couple nights with the gf in a few weeks time and (bearing in mind the gravel on the west section) was considering something along these lines as an morning/afternoons drive:

Does anyone have any improvements to that route without adding much extra to it? I don't know the roads round there, so was just trying to do interesting looking roads where possible and get in some of the triangle and horseshoe pass.

I'm planning a 4 day trip around Wales and I can't decide on going the last week in August, or the first week in September, any thoughts?
I'm presuming the first week in September will be best due to the kids being back at school although to be fair, most of the trip will be off the main roads anyway. I wouldn't have thought either week will make a difference in regards to the weather either.

If you have the time to pull out if the weather is naff just wait until its dry(ish) as too the Triangle being busy I think you will find it is usually empty, even if there is the odd car you can safely overtake at many points. the only issue with traffic is if if you get stuck in general traffic in or out of N Wales. I went a couple of weeks ago and seen alot of traffic on its way into Wales as I headed back to Chester.

I would tweak that route a little to lessen the boring A483 and remove some A5 drudgery (its a nice road in places but traffic and plod ruin any chance of fun) and I would profer this route instead: http://goo.gl/maps/ljL4yI'm staying in Taporley for a couple nights with the gf in a few weeks time and (bearing in mind the gravel on the west section) was considering something along these lines as an morning/afternoons drive:

Only six miles further but more interesting roads IMO. Horseshoe Pass is nothing special and the A483 is a boring d/c way after all. I use those roads a lot on the bike and they're generally interesting and less traficked. The A49 can be fun if you catch a quiet period, just keep an eye out for a dark Yamaha FJR1300 or 3Series beemer - not me, dibble hiding behind unmarked vehicles..

Would you recommend doing it clockwise or anti-clockwise?
I included Horseshoe Pass for the view, not just the road
Sorry, forgot I'd posted in here.. I live near Oulton so my route tends to be clockwise, as the boring bits are nearer the end then, when you'll be a bit tired and less inclined to want to play
That said, hit the A49 bit early if you can, its frustrating if you get stuck behind traffic.

Does anyone know the road where the Dam is in EVO 180?
The cover picture for the Damn fine value £15,000 coupes.
They mention the Brynafon Hotel if that is close?
That is the Caban-Coch Reservoir in the Elan Valley. Be careful when climbing up if you want the same view-point - it's very slippery when wet!The cover picture for the Damn fine value £15,000 coupes.

Did most of the route from the previous page on Saturday, it was really good! The only chippings I came across were a small amount in the village of Cerrigydrudion. I took out the extra A5 bit and added a run through the Nant Y Garth Pass and back, which worked out really well as I loved it:
Nant Y Garth Pass
Didn't stop for any pictures on the actual road of the triangle as it was too good! Managed to get a quick one by the reservoir though:

I'm planning on doing the triangle in a few weeks time as I'm going up that way to see some friends. I'm not planning on driving at 10/10 everywhere, but I'd ideally like to do it very early in the morning as I'd like to have a mostly traffic free (and police free!) run. Assuming I went around mid august, what kind of time would it get light enough to give decent visibility? I'd like to be able to enjoy the scenery as well.
I'm planning on staying in a hotel (probably the royal oak) for a couple of days and then going north to stay with my friends in Caernarfon. Are there any decent routes between the two that I could work into the route?

I saw this when I was planning where to go, it added a bit to much to my trip, but perfect if you are going to Caernarfon:I'm planning on staying in a hotel (probably the royal oak) for a couple of days and then going north to stay with my friends in Caernarfon.
