I have some time off coming up in October and the OH will be away on a solo trip to Asia.

So, being a car-minded guy with time on my hands, I thought about heading over to the EVO Triangle for some decent roads.

However, I do not have a Porsche or an Elise, even an old MX5. I have nothing remotely interesting to drive.

What I do have is a 3 year old, diesel rep-mobile with a fuel card.

Am I wasting my time? Will driver for 4 hours to get there, drive around a bit in my boring car, realise it was pointless and then just drive 4 hours home?

Opinions greatly received
Don't get me wrong driving the Welsh roads in my Elise is great but I also love taking in the scenery too, it is fantastic. The roads are very well sighted and I would image keeping flowing momentum through the bends will be very enjoyable in any car. Not sure how your brakes will hold up from fading on your car, worth being mind-full of if the roads goad you on to carry more and more speed.

There are many routes noted for North Wales in this section but I would recommend the EVO Triangle, Horseshoe pass, B4391 from Bala to Ffestiniog and the Llanberris pass. The Llanberris pass and Horseshoe pass are not the greatest drivers roads but have some fantastic scenery, worth doing early to avoid traffic.

There is a great little cafe on the B4391 too, great scenery from the back whilst you are having some food and coffee.

...it's also good to see some nice cars out in the wild being put through their paces.

No way wasting your time. My advice if you're traveling 4 hours to get there is book in advance a cheap hotel (travellodge £32 Porthmadog / Bangor) so you can get up early and explore north Wales. As the others said EVO T, B4391 and Llanberis Pass are all a must and pretty much in the same area, but if you are coming/going from the South I recommend the B4519 Upper Chapel to Garth too - good road. If your funds can be stretched I recommend hiring something with a bit my poke of course!

Glad you like the B4391. My favourite in North Wales. If you're ever out that way again. Try the road from Wrexham to Ruthin. There is an amazing set of twisties going downhill, unreal. You can then head over to the Triangle from Ruthin.

Me and a few pals are heading out to north Wales on 24th April before going to the Midlands Breakfast club meet. Will be very early start though and weather permitting.

Anyone else about that weekend?

This was our trip a couple of years ago, taken at the same spot but going in the other direction. It was slightly warmer that day and still very quiet, did it both directions just to make sure which way was best biglaugh

I read a story the other day of locals campaigning to make the triangle a 40 limit

They did it to the A4069, so wouldn't be a surprise.

I think that's right. I was there just over a week ago. I was chatting to a local and I mentioned I was there for the Triangle. He said I should keep that info to myself as the locals were not happy as a 20 year old lost his life there the week previous and they wanted something done about it.
